Easy to use, nice display, and not too big. Very nice oven to use and own. Read more
I ordered this microwave on one day and it was delivered the next, so delivery was spot on and FAST. It only gets three stars because I've only had it for a few days. My purchasing requirements include what the appliance looks like, and this one fit the bill. I got the black face with stainless trim. Clean lines, rectangular with no superfluous curves and details. I had a Magic Chef compact/ small countertop unit for at least 25 years and it worked great. It had simple controls, nothing too complicated or littered with features I’ll never use. This new model has similar controls as my old one with just a few changes so I don’t need to learn a new “system.” It has a push button door opener with an undercut under the unit so you can place your fingers in the undercut and push the button with your thumb. Nice ergonomic design. That way you don’t push the unit back every time you open it. Your fingers steady the unit as you push it open, which is preferable to pulling a trigger on a handle to open. The numerical panel acts as an instant on. Punch the number two and it automatically starts at 100% power for two minutes. Same with 3,4,5, etc. If you want to control the power level, you press time cook, press power level, input 1-10, or just use the 100% power, input the minutes and seconds, and hit start. The start button also has an automatic 30 seconds. It has other features for interval cooking. It increased the number of beeps for end of operation to 5, and you cannot turn off the beeps (EDIT: Another reviewer says you can, but I haven't found it anywhere in the manual). It has the usual pizza, dinner plate buttons, etc, and a more nuanced beverage control. Instead of one press for 2.5 minutes, you press it three times for 3 minutes. I think this is in response to people over heating liquids which can explode when moved. It’s almost as small as my .7 CuFt unit and only about 1 inch bigger in width and slightly bigger in depth. Height is almost the same but it’s .9 CuFt. Bigger interior and bigger platter allowing for a larger dinner plate. Build quality seems OK. Although I would make a few adjustments like the side panels have low tolerances - typical for sheet metal design. Not a deal breaker though. Build quality and materials seem perfectly fine and in line with all other microwaves. The only negative I can see is that the control panel is black, and can be hard to read - but all the buttons are mostly in the same place as my old broken Magic Chef so I rely on instinct. In bright, normal light it’s not a problem for me. If you are elderly and have horrible eyesight then maybe this unit isn’t for you. Overall I can recommend this unit over the other based on simplicity of use and its sleek, modern appearance. I’ll update this review after six months if it breaks, something bad happens, or I'll increase this review to four stars. UPDATE after six months of use : Still going strong with no issues. Note : The Magic Chef website doesn’t list this unit with the model number on the instruction manual. They only list the .7 CuFt model but the operation is exactly the same, only it's .9 CuFt. Item was faulty, food was burned and smoke came from cooking 1 minute into cooking. I returned the item and the seller charged me $70 for returning, saying damage was done to the item (only damage it had was broken styrofoam repackaging the item. I went to a lot of hassle driving off island to get this returned. This seller is not trustworthy. Read more
