Compact size bulb for the amount of light output. This bulb uses the same energy as an old 100Watt incandescent bulb but puts out 10 times more light output. The bulbs are out efficiency at 140 lumens/watt. Older LED were 80 lumens/watt and incandescents are around 18 lumens/watt. That sounds like a bunch but is by no means too much for precision work areas. I have two of these over the stove in the kitchen. Yes, it is daylight in my kitchen, it is bright enough that the flame from the gas burners is not visible. But I still love it for detail work. A unique thing about these bulbs is the light output is adjustable (dimmable). There is a small rheostat on the side of the bulb that is adjusted with a screwdriver. The output can be adjusted from about 50% to max. No fan and a noticeable turn-on delay of about ½ second. The light color is bright white (blue color) with a decent CRI of more than 80. CRI (color rendering index) is a measure of how natural the color of items appear compared to natural light. 80 is not ideal but acceptable. Bulbs with more than 90 are considered great with vibrant colors and natural looking color tones. Basically, it is harder to distinguish details of objects with lower CRI numbers. No instructions, no brand name on the box, no UL listing. Bulb does get hot; I measured 160 degrees F surface temperature with base down. I recommend using these in free-air with no fixture restricting air-flow for cooling. The bulbs are built with a hollow center and vents in the base to allow air flow thru the center of the the bulb and out of slots parallel to the strips of LED’s on the side. Without a fan, they depend on natural convection for cooling. LED are in the 50% energy efficiency range meaning, 50% of the 100 watts makes light (50 watts) and the other 50 watts is waste energy producing heat. Read more
