This is the third free-standing unit like this that I have owned - the first manufactured by GarveeHome. This unit is listed at 14,000 BTUs. The other two that I have owned have been 10,000 BTUs and 12,000 BTUs. This unit is beautifully-made. I was surprised at the weight of it - it's substantial. Getting it packaged and delivered is, by itself, an impressive task. It's approaching 100 lbs. It arrived in perfect condition. The room we have been testing it in is just a hair under 750 square feet, which is the upper limit of what this unit is made for. The first thing I noticed once we got it up and running was that the noise level was considerably lower than the other two units we've owned. I don't know if that is simply a result of advances in the technology - the newest of the two that we've owned is about 7-8 years old. We were actually able to watch a television show in the same room as the operating unit. That could never happen comfortably with either of our other units. The high temperatures for the two days we've been using this have been 98° and 96°. We'll get a good number of 100°+ days each summer, but what we've had these last two days is definitely toward the top end of what we ever experience here. We were looking to maintain 72° in the area the unit was running, and it was up for the task. Considering how quiet it was running, maintaining 72° was an impressive fete. Operating the unit is simple and intuitive. It can be adjusted on the unit itself or using the handheld remote control that comes with it. I was sitting approximately 20' from the unit, and the remote control was working consistently. The price for this is about the mid-range, price-wise, for similar units. The value is definitely there, considering how well it works. I can't really speak to how it will hold up. But I see nothing with it that makes me think it's likely to break down. Read more

I ordered a Garvey Home portable air conditioner. The box says Garvee and the model number 10CX1E CF14 comes back on Google as a Lifeplus 10,000 BTU standard ac unit. I ordered it, waited two weeks, it arrived, I opened it, plugged it in and literally the fan was blowing, the compressor kicked in and still 20 minutes later still blowing fan 75° not even blowing slightly cooled air.
