The industrial look in the digital age
A few years ago, the simple utilitarian design of these mini lamps was a novelty-like the Edison bulb. Today this look is everywhere-in furniture, room design and many other applications. These two identical lamps charge by USB-C, and they require two touches to operate: there is an on/off switch on the bottom, and then a series of several taps and long holds on the top perform all functions, starting with actually turning on the light. A little confusing. The light is not very strong, and because of its downward direction is mostly useful for reading or close-by mood lighting. But the lights have a unique version of the industrial look, and appear to be solidly made. I’ve found that the physical construction of electronics of this kind is only half the battle. It is never surprising when a device like this ceases to function for no apparent reason. I hope these keep working for a while. Read more
