I ordered this iutgin 5 piece kitchen knife with block set to replace a really old wooden block I've had for over 30 years that has seen better days! I love the style of this knife set because the black handles with the ripple texture on the blades look amazing suspended in the open wooden holder. The block is about 12 inches tall, 8 inches wide, and 4.5 inches deep, and I like that I can clearly see each knife without having to pull one out first. The knives are made from high quality "3Cr13 stainless steel with advanced forging" that makes them rust resistant and hard. I can tell the difference between my old knives that I have been sharpening all these years, and the insanely sharp precise edges on these new knives! The texture on the blade is supposed to be decorative only, but I find it helps to release food faster as you are slicing. The texture also makes the knives look sleek and modern. The weight of the wooden handles feel well balanced and comfortable in my hand. I also like that the block has clear lettering for each slot, which makes it easier to grab the knife you need for the specific job you are doing. The knives themselves are very sharp and cut cleanly, which is what I needed for different kitchen jobs. I partially freeze ribeye meat for thin cheesesteak slices, and the 13.78 inch meat cutting knife handled that slicing job perfectly. These knives are Gorgeous, with the beautiful wooden handles and high-shine, hammered blades. The narrow profile, minimalist holder ensures they are seen and appreciated as virtual works of art. The performance, though, is a bit disappointing. My husband is a professional chef, and did a side-by-side comparison with a host of his other knives. He found that these knives gave more resistance when cutting than all his others- they just didn’t go through the vegetables as smoothly as the rest. I, just a home cook, wasn’t able to discern much of a difference, so if looks are more important to you than super smooth chopping these knives are probably fine. Read more

First of all, the knives are great. They’re beautiful and cut like a dream. There’s every size you could need in this set to cut just about anything. I like the knives a lot. However, the reason I ended up ordering this was the knife holder. I’ve never like knife holders because of the way they trap bacteria and germs, and how hard they are to clean. This one fixes all of those problems, though! It’s open so I’m not worried about things getting trapped inside where I can’t see it, and it very easy to clean.
