Alba Botanica Very Emollient Cream Shave Unscented 8 Oz

I usually don't write reviews but appreciate everyone else's and really wanted to pay tribute to this great product! Its title, Very Emollient, says it all about this cream shave. It is excellent for dry skin - very conditioning. My legs feel like silk after I use this. And the smell - OMG, the smell is wonderful! The mango vanilla aroma really gives you a dose of aromatherapy while shaving! I use about a walnut sized amount for my legs and I am very tall with long legs and that is plenty. The only sort of down side about the product is that while it is white when you dispense it in your hand, it goes on clear when you put it on your legs for shaving, so you really can't see where you have shaved. However, this sort of comes naturally without even seeing when you have done it for so long. It is really second nature. I haven't had any problems with missing an area or anything. With regard to the other reviews that said it clogged their razor, I didn't have this problem at all. Just swish your razor in the water after every stroke and the razor is clean. The price is good too. You get one more ounce than a can of Skintimate, which is overpriced and clogs often. I will never use anything but this for shaving ever again! bought because my regular Kiehl's unscented has been out of stock for so many months. wife said Alba is a responsible company and makes good product. ALBA's shaving cream is slightly denser than Kiehl's and a little greasier between the finger tips and maybe only slightly less water soluble. That diff only impacts if you use too much ALBA and 'swish' your razor in standing water to clear it. Running water under a faucet always cleared the ALBA. I use about a choc M&M sized dab of the ALBA - all it takes for my every other day stubble and leaves Mach 3 razor very clean/clear. Compared last of the Kiehls on one side and ALBA on the other: no scent while shaving, both left a very clean shave, no razor burn and no scent or 'tingly sense' afterwards on my face, then hour later no difference in moisturized skin on either sides. I gave this 5 stars because it is exactly how it is described. Very emollient shaving cream. Completely unscented. So do not expect a sudsy, white lotion. It took me a while to get used to it because it is so different. Previously have used His My Face shaving lotion for years. Hard to get lately and ridiculously expensive now. This Alba cream is completely invisible. So the razor does not leave tracks. Just takes getting used to. I think it is more moisturizing than the KMF lotion. Use a small amount and rinse your razor like usual so it doesn't get bunged up. If I had the choice I would get the KMF again. However, this works well and is way cheaper and not full of garbage ingredients. Read more

I usually do not offer my opinion on something basic and innocuous like this but in this case you might find it useful. You can easily and precisely control the amount of gel squeezed out and need only apply a very small amount in order to achieve a "slick" surface that enables a razor to easily glide along the skin (some people may think that the slick surface feels "slimy" and too non-traditional). The residue washes off your skin and razor easily and completely. It is my opinion that you need only a very small amount for each shave (like less than a dime sized blob) and then you can make this large tube last for months. It has a pleasant smell too. I see that a number of reviews complain about razors clogging up with this. My experience has been that it thoroughly rinses out of/off your razor, if you rinse with hot water directed toward the blade(s) cutting edge in a stream parallel to the blade's flat surface. After rinsing with hot water I found that remaining residue between the blades comes out easily if I bang the razor "head" against the wash basin bowl 5 or 6 times with the handle parallel to the wash basin bowl surface to loosen the remaining material (at the ends of the bades) and then rinse it again with hot water (same procedure as before) to get out residual material that was loosened by the banging. The only thing more that it could do is act as an after shave/skin conditioner too. Read more
