This scale works very well and has held up over the years. I’ve had it for quite a while now, and it still performs just as reliably as when I first purchased it. It’s versatile enough to use for a variety of purposes — I’ve weighed everything from plants to food with accurate results every time. It’s simple, dependable, and definitely worth recommending if you’re looking for a long-lasting, multipurpose scale. TL;DR: Reliable, accurate, and durable — works great for both food and plants, even after years of use. Read more
This review is for the American Weigh Scales (AWS) AWS-100 digital scale. The ad was labelled "AMW-100" but the correct model name is "AWS-100". I purchased the scale from EZ Sell via Amazon. It was shipped by EZ Sell and it arrived in only 3 days from the order date with standard (free) shipping. I received the silver scale as advertised---it is available in black from other sellers. The AWS-100 has a maximum capacity of 100 grams and a sensitivity of 0.01 grams. Most scales like this are calibrated with a weight equal to the scale's maximum capacity and a suitable 100 gram calibration weight was included by the seller. This was a major reason why I chose to buy from EZ Sell as opposed to another seller. As others have reported, the weight is provided in a tiny ziplock bag that is quite flimsy. I recommend getting a heavier ziplock for storage since the one provided tears easily. I tested the calibration weight with another AWS scale (that was already calibrated) and it read exactly 100.0 grams. Then I tested the new AWS-100 scale. The calibration weight read 100.24 grams. The rated tolerance for the AWS-100 at 100 grams is 0.02 grams which means that the scale should read from 99.98 to 100.02 grams. The AWS-100 instructions said that it is normal to recalibrate the scale whenever it is moved or shipped to a new location. It was extremely easy to calibrate using the instructions provided. The scale now reads a perfect 100.00 grams with the calibration weight. The AWS-100 works very well. It is fast and very sensitive---gently breathing on it will cause the reading to increase a few hundredths of a gram. The LCD readout is easy to read. The features work very well: It is easy to change units (g, oz, gn, ct) with the "Mode" button or zero a tray with the "Tare" button. I was very glad to see that the non-removable hinged cover lays completely flat when opened so it is totally out of the way in case you need to lay an oversized tray or object (like an envelope) on the scale platform. Having an accurate scale with a 0.01 gram sensivity that can be easily calibrated by the user is awesome for this price (US$16.99 with the 100 gram calibration weight). It includes a 10-year warranty from the manufacturer, AWS. It seems to offer excellent value and I'm very satisfied with it. I highly recommend it. Read more
This product arrived today (packaging was great), and it worked so well I was inspired to come write a review immediately. It served exactly the purposes for which I required it, and it did so without many significant issues. First of all, it's pretty small. While this is handy in most situations, it also leads to the only minor complaint that I had: the scale itself is so small that it becomes harder to measure some foodstuffs without the powders and pellets falling off the edge. It would be nice if there were a lip around the perimeter to prevent the weighed items from spilling over. Moreover, there is a bit of space that would allow smaller items and powders to fall beneath the scale platform. Luckily, I was measuring out hop pellets for use in a home-brew recipe, and though they rolled off fairly easily, they were not small enough to fall underneath the scale, entirely, just off the edge onto the counter. This problem would be solved, of course, by using a container (see below), but even then, I had trouble finding a container that was both small enough and light enough that it would do the job without getting me too close to the 100 gram limit. I might consider investing in a 100g weight, but I didn't want to wait for the additional shipping on that item, so I used 40 pennies to calibrate it, and it seemed to do the trick (e.g. I had what my supply store said was 1 oz, and those pellets weighed right about 28.4 g after calibration. The tare function on the scale is rather intuitive and very functional. As noted above, the only containers I have are, apparently, somewhat dense (and large) for this scale; I should have considered this before I bought a scale with a 100 g weight max, but I really liked the precision of this one and most of the time I am measuring only a few ounces or less of hops. There is a fold-over lid that latches into place. This protects the scale itself from being jostled or damaged when you move it. It appears to do a very good job. The directions are printed on the inside of the lid, which makes for easy reference. However, it is so intuitive you will likely only need to read them once. Even calibrating the scale is not very difficult. The LCD screen is very legible. Two batteries were enclosed; they were inserted into the battery slots, but there was a plastic strip between one battery and the node to prevent draining the battery during transit. It worked pretty much straight out of the box (though it did require 40 pennies or 20 nickels or a 100 g calibration weight). I will update if further experience warrants. Read more
I can only remark for light use(not every day) but it seems like a decent little scale, it's accurate down to 20mg, which is good enough for what I need it for. Read more
