Accurate, small, works exactly as intended.

So glad I bought this scale! It's super accurate for measuring salt, yeast, spices etc. So much better than measuring spoons. I even use it to divide Mac n cheese powder into 4 portions so I can make 1/4 of a box with a meal! Read more

Changed the way I scale recipes and made cooking/baking easier

B. ThelinDecember 11, 2025

I didn't realize how much I needed a scale for the very small measures normally reserved for tablespoon and teaspoon measurements until I purchased this scale. Completely easy to use and accurate. It has allowed me to shift my recipes to weight measures for the lower weights and therefore my ability to scale recipes precisely regardless of the amount I want to make. Sure, we can all double, or triple things. But what if you want to so 3/5 of the recipe or 2 1/6, to get a specific quantity or use an amount of an ingredient you have? Much harder without a scaled measurement. Sure, not needed for everyone, but it makes it easier for me to cook/bake, so I fully love and support this device. Be aware, this is for smaller measures only. You need a standard scale for standard weighing. I haven't found an accurate all-in-one scale yet that gives this level of precision. Read more

Amazing product for the price

AM-ReviewMarch 25, 2011

I got this scale so I can weigh out certain foods because I am on a diet. I also have the AWS AMW-100 scale as well, however that only goes to 100 grams and I was extremely limited on the food I was weighing, so I decided to move up to this 650g version. Firstly I will say it is much smaller than I was anticipating. The AC-650 actually has a smaller weighing platform (width wise) than my AMW-100 model. Based on the pictures with the lid acting as a expansion tray, it was made it to be bigger than it really is. But realistically, this is just about the same rectangular size and shape of a iPhone (although much thicker and a bit taller). Heck, it even looks like a cell phone to some degree. The scale itself looks very slick, it has a unique style of plastic that almost resembles those rubber-plastics you often find on phone cases, although while it doesn't feel rubbery at all, it has some similarity. Either way, a great texture. The weight of the scale is also good, as it feels heavy for it's size which makes it seem more robust. As for the actual weighing feature of the scale, it works great. Accuracy is more than good enough for me, I have a old 100g weight from my other scale and it weighed it exactly at 100g right out of the box. I also really like the easy to use, perfectly sized on/off button, which is a huge step up from my AMW-100 scale which had flat, sunk-in style buttons. So far it has been working just as good as my other 100 gram scale, and the TARE feature is really useful (I didn't know what this feature did until I got this scale). Now for the con. The lid that comes with it might be a problem for some people. As it is not really secured to the scale when it is in place, so it can easily come off in transport or if juggled around in a drawer too much. The lid is also made of hard plastic that is easily crackable. It's nice to have it separate so I can expand the size of my weighing surface, but I much prefer the style of my AMW-100 model, where the lid is attached on a hinge and snaps shut when not in use. But hey, for a scale that only cost me $11 plus free shipping, I really can't complain here. Overall I like the scale. The increase from 100g to 650g makes a HUGE difference for me, and has expanded the potential food items I will be able to weigh on it. Not sure if it will last as long as my AMW-100 (which still works great) but only time will tell and I will edit this review as necessary. Read more

Accurate

JasonDecember 3, 2024

This scale works great. It’s very accurate, readings do not fluctuate. & easy to operate. Automatically turns off after 300 sec (5 min.) which is perfect for me. Worth the small price. I’m not sure about the durability but not to worried. I’ve been told they’re durable which is why I chose this product. I would recommend this to anyone who’s looking for a reliable scale. Read more

True tips and comparison to AW Bt2-1000 scale.

WayneChicagoJanuary 2, 2012

I bought these two scales simultaneously on Amazon. American Weigh Scale - AC-650 Digital Scale 650g and the American Weigh Bt2-1000 scale (link below) They are by the same company, and obviously differ in weight max at 1000g or 650g. I will tell you more about them here to help you. American Weigh Scale Bt2-1000 Digital Gram Pocket Grain Jewelry Scale, Black, 1000 By 0.1 Grams (10 Year Warranty) I checked them both with a 50 gram weight (note: anyone who tries to gauge scale accuracy with a nickel is wrong), seen here, and they are each precisely at 50 grams, ideally calibrated straight out of the box. 50-Gram Chrome Scale Calibration Weight Accuracy is spot on for each. 50-Gram Chrome Scale Calibration Weight Each has a Tare feature to allow one to deduct the weight of a container (too hard to explain, google if you need more info). Both made in China. They are precisely the same in that they are made by the same company, American Weigh. They both have a full 10 year warranty, and the same card is in each box indicating a 10 year warranty. They both have an AMS logo on them. They both shut off after one minute without use to save batteries, and they both require two AA batteries (included, but cheap no name batteries in each). They are both with blue backlighted screens during use, and the numbers on the screens are about the same size. AC-650 has: weighs up to 650 grams. Supplies ounces and grams only. 4.5 in x 2.5 in x 3/4 in, almost precisely the size of an iPhone. PLastic, with plastic buttons and metal scale bed. Removable clear case top, not hinged, fits well but loosely (as others have said in reviews, might fall off in a purse). No slip case. Solid build, battery hatch and weight is 117.7 grams/4.15 ounces. BT2-1000 has: weighs up to 1000g. Supplies ounces and grams and carats and ozt, gn and dwt (and if you need those, you likely know what they are). 5 inches x 3.5 inches x 3/4 inches--so 0.5-1.0 inch larger in length and width, but same thickness as the ac-650. Solid build, battery hatch and weighs 166 g/5.85 ounces. It feels heavier than the 650 by a long shot. It has a rubberized case which feel good but may wear and look poor over time, and it comes with a vinyl, soft slip case like a calculator. It has a hinged, attached flip plastic lid (which oddly and inconveniently, does not flip open all the way flat on the table--it stays about 1/2 closed all the time which can get in the way of larger items than hang off the scale). The plastic door can be unattached but would then leave the device to be turned on easily. Why? It has no physical buttons--it is a touch screen. Even the on and off button is on a touch screen. If the screen looks bigger on the 1000 than the 650, it's because extra screen room was used for the virtual buttons (on/off, tare, shift oz/g/dwt, etc.) If I was to carry one in my purse, or backpack, and needed only grams and ounces and wanted real buttons (the jury is really out, in my opinion, on the long term use of the touch screen on the bt2-1000--but it does have a ten year warranty), I'd choose the ac-650 based on size and device weight (it weighs 1/3 less), knowing that the clear plastic lid may get scratched (but the scale metal plate is well protected) and need an elastic to keep it on securely. The larger device is too "fixie", with slip case over hinged plastic case. The hinged case, although it sounds good, really just seems to be in the way, but I have to keep it on b/c of the touch buttons being easy to activate and turn on inadvertently. If one wanted a table scale, not as portable, and needed 1k grams, and measures other than ounces and grams, the bt2-1000 is great. I will use it on my table for weighing items I review for Amazon, and I will use the ac-650 on the go. Hope this helps. Bye now. Read more
