Antarctic Star 10000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner 3 in 1 Free Standing Cooling AC Unit with Fan Dehumidifier

Good portable AC for a medium sized room. The cooling unit on our upstairs AC went out and we didn't feel like paying the $10,000 it would cost to replace it. The bedroom upstairs is only used by one of our grown children when they visit, so we don't really need to cool the entire area. The unit is a bit loud to sleep with, but it does cool the room very quickly when run with the existing ceiling fan on. Installation was simple, with the only part that needed to be adjusted was the exhaust hole vent so that it fits in a window. Once installed, you can't use the window that is used for exhaust, but our windows open at both the top and bottom, so it is still possible to open the window a bit while the exhaust hose is attached. The unit does a great job lowering the humidity in the room, which make the room feel a lot cooler right away. The only complaints I have are that the water drain is so low on the unit that it is very ifficult to drain it should that become necessary. I drained it by moveing the unit to the top of the stairs and running the hose down a couple of stairs to get a good drain. Overall, we did not notice any increase in electricity usage since we don't run it every day, and it certainly consumes significantly less electricity than the HVAC unit, so overall a big win. Blows very cold air, Easy to install, Not noisy at all, Great air quality, Great functionality, Great price for an 8,000btu, Good that it has a remote control, Good size for a room. I bought the 3 year warranty to make sure it stays in good condition, My father is on hospice and he’s bedridden so I want him to be comfortable, I won’t allow him to get hot and get sick or anything like that when it gets really hot outside. ===== UPDATE ===== Avoid as this failed less than 30 days in =≈=== This AC really works well. This is much easier to use for a window and easily cools the bedroom. I used this for a week while my A/C was out and the A/C guy could not get here in time. Overall, this is a nice solid machine. It is a bit more noisy than central A/C but pretty similar to hotel A/C noise. The only thing that you need to worry about is how you want to vent the hose as you have to get rid of the water somewhere. I used the attached hose and connector to pull it outside. This is a nice and sturdy unit and would be good if you have a room that gets too hot in the summer and don't want to pay an A/C to balance the rooms. Read more

This kept me cool all summer. I have a small house. 900 square feet. It kept the living room and kitchen perfect. I still needed window units in the bedrooms. It is a little noisy. Great AC. Easy to setup and it cools down fast. The noise level is normal for an air conditioner. I found that the cool and the dehumid noise level to be the same, with the fan noise level a bit lower. I think this is great for small apartments and large room cooling. Just got it so no opinion on durability. Comfort level is nice, it definitatly take the edge of on hot humid days. I bought this to use in my upstairs bedroom. It is an older home and the central air doesn't reach the upstairs very well. It does an ok job at best. If you want it to cool down a whole room, a window unit would probably be better. I ended up having to point it at the end of my bed in order to make it cool enough to sleep comfortably. Read more

Nice and cold It’s a portable a/c so don’t expect to function as a package unit or split system. It is nothing more than a heat remover. Uses r32 refrigerant which is the newest a2l refrigerant. It cycles on and off potentially to go into a type of defrost mode. Doesn’t fill up with condensate too quickly. 8000k btu capacity i find that hard to believe but thats the rating. 15amp circuit and for the price you shouldn’t expect too much but it does cool.
