Only the lower funnel filter is bare aluminum - upper filter is solid stainless. This replaces my 6 oz pot with a tiny handle that places my hand too close to the hot metal and also drips during pouring. The new one does not have those problems. I noticed some flakes of metal left over from when the threads were cut and would suggest a thorough cleaning before first use. Nice Moka that brews a very tasty cup. Simple to use, but for those who have never brewed with one, it is imperative that the lid be left closed at all times while heating. Moka pots brew under pressure and, once hot, will finish the brew in a matter of seconds. Don't walk away or it can burn quickly. If the lid is left open, you risk a huge mess and possible scalds. After a few uses, you will learn to listen for the sound it makes to know when brewing is complete. When gurgling stops, turn off the heat immediately. Read more
The media could not be loaded. This is my first experience with a moka pot. There is a little learning curve. I used an electric kettle to heat my water to about 180 degrees before adding it to the pot. You’re supposed to add water to the small brass vent; that’s about 11 oz in this pot. I used a burr grinder to get my coffee to about the size of table salt and filled the filter to the brim. I put the pot over my smallest burner, so the flame did not extend past the edge of the pot and once the coffee started coming out the top, I turned the flame down. Be careful to close the lid once the coffee comes out. When it’s close to finishing, it blows out much harder and will blow past the edge of the pot. The coffee it produces is much stronger than a Keurig or pour over. It really is excellent, obviously depending on the type of coffee. I’m very happy with this order. Read more

So I had never used a moka pot before acquiring this one. My old espresso machine died and I figured this would be a cheap substitute to tide me over. I watched a couple of YouTube videos on how to use this pot (there are no instructions with it) and ground up some espresso beans. My calculations based on a 16:1 ratio water:coffee led me to grind up 17g of coffee ... this turned out to be too much to fit in the basket. I've since dropped to just under 15g and that fits perfectly - you just have to adjust the amount of water accordingly. My first couple of cups were pretty dreadful, but getting the grind adjusted and going to fill the pot with pre-boiled water and brewing on the lowest setting on my stove has drastically improved the quality of the cup. this is just the right size to make 2 cups of espresso. It is really easy to use just fill the bottom with water and add your coffee grounds to the filter basket. Put the top on and heat it on your stove. Once the coffee starts to brew you will have 2 4oz cups of espresso to enjoy. I hand wash between uses. Read more

I’m an infrequent coffee drinker and only a colada drinker at that so I have absolutely no need for a coffee maker or anything similar, taking up the nascent amount of counter space that I have. This little thing has existed since the beginning of the colada and, in this case, the adage, “If it ain’t broke…” definitely applies. This is neat, compact, easy to clean, easy to use, and makes perfect coladas every time as long as I remember to incorporate patience into the preparation. Couldn’t ask for anything more! Read more
