I have Trismus. My mouth opening was at 10 mm, normal being 50 mm. I have been using tongue depressors stacked between my teeth and going for therapy to have the jaw muscles messaged and loosened. The main one in my opinion is the pterygoid. (teragoid) I was concerned about the pressure the boards put on my teeth; they seemed to be loosening. I bought the TheraBite because it said the pressure is distributed across all the teeth. It also said it is anatomically correct and I did not know what that meant until I watched the video that came with the devise. When the mouth opens, only the bottom of the jaw moves. The TheraBite only makes the bottom of the jaw move whereas the boards put more pressure on my top teeth than on the bottom. I am now at 18 mm opening using the boards for about eight weeks. I have had the TheraBite two days now and am using it throughout the day. My husband said he can tell a difference in my speech already. I am very happy with its performance so far but I will come back and give an update on my progress in a month or two. Mine would not open when I first got it out but the white knob needed to be turned. I had trouble getting the pin out to adjust the arm but I guess it has to be tight to stay in place. The product itself is great. The genius is behind the design, but it's so simple that the price seems a little high to me. I bought the rehab system for my mom right after surgery.
