We bought an Austin Air Healthmate JR PLUS thru Amazon Prime supplier Pro Therapy Supplies to use during a major house renovation while we were living in the house. My family has significant lung issues but had no lung problems what so ever, even during the messiest construction days. The JR PLUS is the regular Austin Air Healthmate air purifier but this model also removes toxins like the smelly VOCs from paint, glues, textures, etc. I originally bought one of these for my daughter with asthma after she moved into an old house that had just been renovated and still smelled of paint, wood floor refinishing, etc. I bought that one at a local supplier in the Seattle area. She loves it and keeps it in her bedroom for health reasons plus the gentle white noise it provides for sleeping on the low speed. She runs it on medium or high during the day while she is gone. She has had it for 2 years of continuous use so far. The filter just needs routine vacuuming on the outside panels and is guaranteed for 5 years with pro-rated replacement if you have heavy toxin use, which made it much more attractive than other air filters. The machine takes up a corner 11 inches square and about 16 inches high but needs to have clearance of 8 inches on each side to be the most effective. There are 3 speeds with the lowest sounding like the quietest bathroom exhaust. You can hear it while sleeping but it provides a white noise that does not bother me (as a light sleeper). It does not come with wheels even though it is pictured with some. Wheels would be of use if you intend to move it from room to room but I just pick it up from the bottom and carry it to other locations. A little awkward but doable. There was an issue with the outside of the machine arriving dented and with damaged paint but the Pro Therapy Supplies/Amazon Prime addressed the problem immediately and took care of it to my satisfaction. The motor has run perfectly (and continuously for 8 months). It works so well that we are considering getting another of the same JR PLUS model machine for our upstairs as we live in a smoggy area. It arrived with broken feet (riveted) and dented housing (at these prices?). I have been buying Austin Air Filters since 9/11 when they were recommended for us folks living in downtown Manhattan. This would be my third. They are great little workhorses, but the assembly always seems to be performed by someone who doesn't care if screws go in straight, rivets are broken, cases are dented, etc. Come on, Made in USA, where's our pride? We can do better! EDIT: Austin is sending me a new one, and they paid the return shipping for the banged-up one with the broken feet, so I am upping the stars to four. EDIT: The replacement arrived with ...[drum roll] ... a broken foot. The rivet is sheared right off. I'm sending it back and will contact Austin directly before I put another $615 on my credit card. I lived in China for three years at had an IQ Air filter there to make our living area safe. I loved it, but we sold it when we moved back to the U.S. I know what kind of cleaning the IQ is capable of, but I didn't want to pay the big bucks for another one in the U.S. The reviews of the Austin Air Healthmate Jr. Plus seemed like the perfect solution. We had moved to a new home and had carpet/painting done in our baby's room. The smell was appalling and concerning. After much research I made the purchase and noticed a very obvious improvement in the air quality. It smells "IQ fresh" for a fraction of the cost. It is small and works very well in his bedroom. I highly recommend this product for anyone with concerns about air quality! It gets the job done! Read more

We purchased three of these units to place around different areas of the house. We've had them for about a year. Two of the units are in bedrooms. The first thing we noticed after running the unit is the reduction in dust. My wife also felt less congested waking up in the morning. We run the unit on low 24/7. From a noise perspective, this filter is not silent, but on low it is pretty quiet. I initially wondered if it was too noisy to sleep with (I'm not a fan of white noise), but it has been fine. I like that the zeolite plus carbon will take some stuff out of the air that carbon by itself won't - especially formaldehyde. These units aren't that cheap, but if you compare the life cycle cost of replacing filters a lot in cheaper filters, vs 5 years in this filter, you'll come out on top with this filter. Read more

Works great! I bought for our new house that had a toxic smell from all the new materials. I can definitely smell and feel a difference. Gave 4 stars as the color is a very ugly white and it came with multiple dents, for the price I would expect it to be in pristine condition. Read more

The unit has a nice design and structural very well build. It has 3 fan speed settings which bring me to the problem. Speed setting 1 & 2, although very quiet, the intake air is not noticeable at all.... it is unable to hold up just the littlest of tissue when placed against the 4 intake air surfaces. In other words, there is no air intake at all. Speed 3 is the only setting that appears to take in air and is also able to hold the tissue against the housing. That would indicate dust/odor IN and clean air OUT....but this setting it is also the noisiest. Not sure if this will help someone, you can try the test yourself and see what you think. P.S. I use the #3 setting all day (it is doing a good job) and shut the unit off at nights. Read more
