TLDR: Product does not perform as advertised I purchased this unit for health reasons, specifically to use in a very small enclosed space (6' × 5' trailer) where any change in air quality should have been immediately noticeable. Despite continuous use, it made no difference at all — no reduction in odor, VOCs, or pollutants. For a product marketed to remove chemicals, odors, and VOCs with medical-grade filtration, this was a complete failure of its core promise. When I contacted the seller, I was told: “We did not ship a defective product.” They refused to consider any defect and made it clear the unit was not eligible for return at all, offering no troubleshooting or support. This is not just disappointing — it’s unacceptable for a $600 health-focused device. Customers should be aware that if it doesn’t work, there may be no remedy or accountability from the seller. I hope Amazon reviews this listing carefully. A product that fails to perform and a seller who refuses all responsibility is a serious concern for other buyers. Read more
The best at removing smells and VOCs! My third purchase. This junior one is a really nice size that is more easily moved room to room. The big one is the best but it’s very heavy. So if you’re moving up stairs and you don’t think you can move a large 40-50lb box, you should definitely get this smaller junior one!! Just love these air purifiers so much!!! Read more
I bought this to remove some smells in an apartment that is only 500 square feet. I can't identify what the smell is and thought this would solve the problem. It has been running for two days now and the smell is still strong. I'm thinking of returning it. Read more
I have another one of these that I bought about 10 years ago. This new one is quieter, works better than the old one. So it's even better that before. Bother are great. Read more
Initial subjective impressions. Nice size for a typical bedroom. Does a great job at scrubbing dust and allergens from the air. Squeaky clean. Jury’s still out on odors, can’t tell yet either way. To that end…. Pros: 1) Heavy-duty, all powder-coated steel construction. 2) Simple design. It’s got a simple mechanical switch for speed control, and a ball-bearing motor driving the impeller. 3) The filter canisters are BEEFY, also fully steel construction, with a serious gasket sealing both ends of the barrel. 4) Outside of the generous warranty period, Austin Air will repair any of their units for a $90 flat rate. 5) While the pre-filter is replaceable separately, when any part of the multi-stage filter can becomes saturated — the whole assembly needs replacing, which is fine. Austin does offer a pro-rated discount on filter replacements, so it’s hard to complain about that. 6) No stupid app, WiFi or "smart" features! It's an air-cleaner, and that's it! 7) Made in the USA. Cons: 1) Price. Despite building these with US labor, it’s hard to see how such a simple machine costs quite so much, but I digress. 2) Quite loud on high setting, should one need that much air turnover at night. 3) Power hungry. Final thought — it’s my understanding Austin Air has been building effectively this same machine (scaled up /down in size) for decades now, with only minor enhancements to the filter media package. Advancements in motor efficiency, and turbine / fan blade tech have come a long way since then. These units could easily be made quieter, and to use less power. It would be nice if Austin were to not only roll upgrades into new-build air purifiers, but offer existing owners an upgrade program as well. Read more
This is the smaller junior model. Many years ago I used the standard model and I saw no dust anywhere. All that dust on your horizontal surfaces, including carpet, is what you are breathing in. I also tried a different make's tabletop model. Filter needed frequent cleaning; It was much cheaper than Austin but you get what you pay for. Austin's filters need replacing every five years. Well worth the money for the best out there. Read more
My unit arrived with a dent in the intake exterior wall of the unit. I would have returned the item for a refund, but wanted to double check the inside of the unit to see if it was used since there were dents and scratches on the exterior. I opened up the bottom, and the interior filters looked new, but discovered the exterior wall and bottom plate were made of a cheap flexible metal. I was able to bend the metal dented area back into shape. I observed a scratch and removal of paint where the dent was located. These dents and scratches were clearly done at the point of either manufacturing or packaging. I was careful to remove it, since I saw there was a scratch clearly visible when I opened the box. The box was completely sealed, so this was done prior to shipment. I spent 600 plus on this tiny unit, so I expected higher quality. I have not run the unit to determine it’s effectiveness at removing odors yet. I may improve my review and rating if it is way more effective than other air filters. Right now, my impressions are that this is cheaply made, with poor quality control. I am not impressed. Read more
