Update...My problem was that I did not tighten the phone holder to it's base well enough. Be sure to do that! I have now recommended it to many. It is great. I really do like it. I think one should adjust the base into the vent here and there for reassurance of any possible slippage due to heavy phones. I have a XR with a simple case. And this holds well. I found just the right place to place the metal piece inside the case. So it sits in the perfect spot on my vent in my car. This is a great device! After reading all the reviews, I was sold. I was happy about 3 things: 1)The holding power of the magnetic device, 2)The fact it would stay in the air vent, and 3) that it would not move or shift around - that it was strong. And I opted NOT to use the tape or strip to hold the magnetic thing. I decided to put it in my phone case. But, I had just purchased a Lamicall finger ring stand; and the base attached itself quickly to that ring stand as well as the magnetic piece I place in my phone case. That sucker holds VERY WELL! I placed it in the vent. It doesn't necessarily allow the vent to move. And I am extremely cold natured, so I like the heat to run on high... but away from my face. So I haven't figured out yet if the heat will destroy my phone; or if I will have to turn the air vent off or move my device to another (further away) vent. But, it did stay very well in the vent. Lastly, I was excited at the fact reviewers mentioned it held the phone in place. Well...I was disappointed in that regard. The minute I placed my phone on the device, it went down. I have a 10XR. I have basic hard place/silicone case and the light weight Lamicall finger ring. It is not much heavier than most phones. And it did not stay up...for anything. Luckily, for me... because I placed the finger ring a little lower on the back of my phone and the metal piece in my phone cover a little higher up, when the device dropped/lowered, my phone touched on the dash just enough that it sits up so that I can still see it very well. But I will not be able to turn it to the right, left or up. It will simply always slant down since it does not hold the supposed heavy phone I have. But it is still a great feature, and I will use it! Over the weekend, I noticed the phone fall off the device twice. I am didn't want to have to use my ring to hold it, but I may have to do that. It's either that or use the black metal piece on the outside of my phone's case which would ruin the prettiness of my phone cover. This product is fantastic. By far, the best phone mount I have come across. Works great and is plenty rugged and adjustable The magnet is plenty strong. Holds my Galaxy S9+ very well, and I put the metal plate in the back of the phone case rather than stick it to the back. The description says it does not support think I phone cases, which mine is not- however I have no doubt that if you peel abd stick the metal plate to the back of the case it will work just fine. I love how this mounts to the CD player. I have had issues in the past with suction cup mounts and vent mounts staying attached. I dont use the CD player anyway, and this is the perfect place. The shape of the base does not interfere with my view of the radio display or block any of the controls. Some other CD mounts I looked at did. I did not need any of the extra rubbers to achieve a secure fit in my car. After receiving the mount and using it for a day, I immediately bought another for my wife's car. She loves it as much as I do. For her car, I did use one of the extra rubber pieces. I only needed the thinnest one and it locks in securely. The only down side to this product is that with the metal plate in the back of the phone, my wireless charger does not work. I have a cheap wireless charger, not sure if a Samsung charger would work, but I doubt it. It's a tradeoff that is worth it to me, but because of it, I had to rate it 4 stars overall rather than 5. I had tried several phone holders and had to return them all. None worked. Vent holders never fit, I don't want adhesive on my dash,, suction doesn't adhere, etc. The CD holder made more sense. I read reviews and ordered. But, I must admit, I screwed up inserting into the CD slot. I followed all instructions and slid it in, but I couldn't get it back out. Instructions said it was easily removed....not this one! I tried everything and it wouldn't come back out...until I finally broke it!! I was so upset. After stewing about it for a couple days, I sent an email to Bestrix Support, late at night, and was very honest about everything including how I broke it, and asked if I pushed it into the CD slot too far and was there any recourse. Early the next morning I had a reply informing me to choose any new holder and they would send it to me NO Charge!! I was so pleasantly surprised at the super fast response and offer to replace my broken holder!! Note: the Bestrix rep informed me that it was possible to push it too far. Customer service these days is so poor with most companies, I did not expect a response at all (I guess I was just letting off steam), let alone such a fast one AND a replacement!. I had a new holder in just a few days, and after being very careful installing it, I locked it in, and it works great! I just slipped the large magnet inside my phone case, (which is fairly hefty) as I didn't want to stick it to my phone or case. I've driven over some rough road and large bumps and it stays right where I put it. This is so much handier to just grab and go than some that slide into place, plus it's right where I can see it easily, especially good if using GPS.
