BLACK+DECKER BL1400DG-P Quiet Stainless Steel Blender with Cyclone Glass Cup This is a wonderful blender! I have used an $800 Blendtec quiet blender but it only lasted 3 years. I have used a Breville powerful blender but it was very noisy and also stopped working way too soon. I needed one immediately so bought this B&D for the interim. But when I started using it I decided that this will do and there was no need to buy a much more expensive blender, especially given that the expensive ones stopped working in such a short amount of time. I use this one to make smoothies that include hard items like raw carrots (which I cut into slices) and ice cubes. When I use the smoothie setting this B&D does not blend it into a smooth drink. Instead the food still is in non-smoothie chunks that are unpleasant. However, after I use the smoothie button, that stops automatically, I wait 10 seconds and then start the blender again using the button labeled 3, which does not stop automatically. After this second blending for just a minute or two, it is a perfect smoothie for me. The instructions that came with the blender seem to suggest that this longer period of blending is not good for the blender. However, I figure that the lower price of this B&D blender makes it more economical even if it burns out from long use times. I have only had it for a month or so, thus I cannot speak to how long it will last with heavy daily use. I love that it has a glass cup. The cover is a disappointment since it is a hard plastic with no rubber to hold it into place. However, the top fits well and does not leak, if you have the two doors closed tight. I find it to be about average in noise level for blenders. But like any blender or noisy kitchen appliance, I wear noise cancelling headphones when in use. Read more

Very weak motor. Need to cut vegetables like carrots into small pieces. Noisy with sounds like the plastic gears are failing. The worst part of this blender is the blade assembly. After about 3 months of use, the o-ring just below the blades failed, placing chunks of rubber in the food. Finding pieces of rubber in your smoothie was not pleasant. After an hour of searching, it appears that a replacement blade assembly is not available. I suppose Black and Decker wants to sell a new blender every four months. I suggest you look elsewhere for a low cost blender. Read more
