Overview: - Dude, WHAT THE HECK - I was NOT expecting this "PORTBLE" (hah) speaker to be THIS WELL-TUNED. I spent WAY more time listening to music with this thing than I was expecting. I was honestly a little awestruck; acoustic music/singing, rock, EDM, classical - everything was impressively well-balanced. Bass isn't overpowering, mids and highs are crystal clear! I had originally bought this speaker hoping it would at least be usable enough to function as a speaker for a portable guitar I have (as it actually has an AUX-in, which is getting disappointingly uncommon on modern Bluetooth speakers). I'll definitely be using it for more than just that! I took some time to scour the internet for this thing, and it does look like it's a drop-ship special (I found the EXACT same speaker on an unnamed Chinese site for $8.50 per speaker if you buy 1000 of them, less if you buy more), but the price they're being sold at is still pretty impressive, ESPECIALLY considering the fact that it sounds far better than my Soundcore 2 Go and even better than either of my two Altec Lansing speakers of a similar size. The speaker grill is pretty flimsy, and I DEFINITELY wouldn't trust ANY IP-rating for this speaker (keep it out of the water please!), but if you're just looking for a really cheap ($16.99 at the time of this review) but amazing-sounding speaker... This absolutely does the job! Pros: - I'll state this again - REMARKABLY good sound quality. I was expecting this to sound like hot garbage, but it actually sounds GREAT! - It includes an AUX input (YAY!) - It includes a Micro-SD card slot (Double yay!!) - It can even use the charging cable as a makeshift radio antenna (?!? I haven't yet tried this, but I've never heard of this functionality on another speaker. Strange but cool!) - Seems to have decent battery life Cons: - Because of the nature of this speaker's origins, I would guess that the QC is probably pretty lax. It's entirely possible I just hit the QC Jackpot and all others of this model are indeed hot garbage. - Definitely NOT waterproof. DO NOT PUT THIS IN WATER PLEASE! - Speaker grille is a bit flimsy - but still should be adequate unless you're pretty rough with your possessions. - Not a serious issue, but, as I referenced at the beginning of this review, "Portable" was misspelled on the exterior packaging of this speaker. It was spelled "Portble," which wasn't the best initial impression - though it made the contrast between the packaging/presentation and the speaker's actual decency even more striking/surprising! - My biggest gripe: The lowest volume this speaker is capable of outputting is STILL pretty loud. Louder than necessary. However, if you really wanted to play something quietly, you wouldn't be using a Bluetooth speaker in the first place, would you? You'd just use your device's built-in speakers (assuming it has them). TLDR: - I was super, super impressed with the sound quality of this speaker. Strongly recommend! I mean, at this price point I am HIGHLY impressed with this blue tooth speaker! I’ve been through several speakers. Some are good; some are too bass-y, some have terrible sound quality and don’t connect very well and some the controls are harder to manager. This one is the perfect size. I love the light feature on it and the controls are really easy to manage. I had no issues connecting to it and it was also very easy to switch users (one phone from another.) The thing I love most about it is the sound quality. I am still blown away at good Rammstein sounded on it; it might as well have been a high quality stereo system; great base for such a little device and the balance of music over lyrics and vice versa was perfect. I’ve been using this quite a bit for the last month or two and I’ve only had to charge it once. Granted, I only listen to it for about an hour every other day, but that battery life is impressive to me! I have not tested waterproof capabilities yet as I purchased in the fall; pool season is over for the year, but you better believe that I’m excited to take it out by the pool! I imagine that it’s going to get a ton of use this summer! Bring on lots of music and pool days! I don’t really intend to put it in the pool so I gather that a little splash of water will be fine and that’s all the waterproof I need. Overall this is an amazing Bluetooth speaker.
