Buy from a company with a verified customer support line

Monica FowlerSeptember 15, 2023

Nice knives out of the box and good feel. However, I bought knives 2 weeks ago and hand washed all of them, towel dried and put them in the block. 1 knife has rust spots and have not been able to get in touch with customer service. Per their online chat, should not have rusted and gave me customer service number. I have left 4 or 5 messages and no call back. I sent an e-mail as well with no response. I have to remind myself that a product's value includes the company's ability to support their products. Looking for a way to return and purchase something else. Read more

Beautiful design, excellent quality

E.SwopeJanuary 31, 2021

The Cangshan knife block set is a stand out for design, workmanship and material quality. Years ago I bought myself a nice set from Wusthoff, after a bit of research, and, because of my location, not being able to see, hold, compare. They are quality knives, but do not fit my hand as well as the henckles, which I had also considered. Last year our daughter moved back in because she found her dream job here. She is a chef who has worked at several 5 star restaurants. She is very particular about her knives having hand selected each of 2 dozen. I have run every piece of cooking equipment which enters this house by her. She knew Cangshan, and said that one of the elite chefs has them make his knives. I had read about Sandvik and the remarkable materials they produce. One article asked why people only discuss a couple of brands. I suspect that without my daughter around I would not have given it a second thought, but I have now replaced many of my knives. This set is among the best, if not the best, overall, as a set. It is very well thought out, well designed, well executed and with the best materials. The block is very striking. It is actually 3 blocks which work independently or together. For example, you can carry the smaller block with the steak knives to the table. The center block which holds most of the basic knives, is magnetized. The large knives are held in place by magnets on either side. While this is very stinking, it is also my least favorite feature. As I was reorganizing my kitchen and moved the block, both knives fell off, one at a time, and could have caused serious injury. They are very sharp (as they ought to be). The chef's knife has a classic shape which makes it easy to use with a rocker mothion which many prefer. The knives are substantial. The closest of what I have is my Henckles. I have pisted a picture orf the paring knife in this set next to a Wusthoff trident and a Henckles 4 star. The Cangshan has an ergonomic design like the Henckles, though the back side has part of a hexagonal pattern like better Japanese knives. It is very comfortable in hand, sharp, with a precisely honed angle. My daughter was explaining that there are 2 kinds of boning knives, one sturdy, one flexible, and then noting that this one was both, and could be used for either task. The honing steel is visibly different from the others. My daughter said that it looked like a diamond coat (but she was not sure about that). It was not cross cut like the others. Each of the knives I have used in this set has been exceptional. I like that they included a deli knife, which is one of the specialty knives I had purchased to augment my old set, and one which gets a good deal of use around here. I have not used this set for very long, but have been impressed by how good it feels in hand, how easy to use. I am very much enjoying them and can recommend them to anyone looking for a very good set of knives. Read more

Exceptionally sharp, odd wooden block.

R. SebringApril 1, 2021

I got these as a late wedding gift for friends of mine who LOVE cooking, almost more so than eating what they inevitable burn or over-season. Sorry D&J if you're reading this! The set is very nice and here's a culmination of my and their thoughts: What we like: - Sharp. Almost dangerously sharp. If you're not careful and used to fine cutlery you may end up slicing yourself open, and you won't feel it at first as these effortlessly glide through pretty much everything. You might need to re-assess your kitchen cutting skills, because these are SHARP! - Good balance. Full tang and comfortable but not bulky handles gives these a balance point just ahead of your middle finger when using the blade grip. - Sharp. In case you missed me saying it before. - Attractive wooden block. Nice finish, real wood, recessed or enclosed blades make for a mix of display and utility. - Good weight. Some heft so you know you're using a tool, but not so much it's cumbersome. What we found lacking: - Odd block arrangement. The blocks are actually three separate units, held together with internal hidden magnets. (i have a nail clipper hanging off one of the magnets in a pic) What's odd, is that when aligned, the beveled tops do not line up. If you place this against a wall, the middle block is beveled to the side, one side block is towards you, but the other is facing away from you. You'll almost need to pull the blocks apart to get the knives on the side facing away. We tried to see if it was modular, with magnets on both sides, but no. The odd angles are intentional. Over all, this SHARP knife set is exquisite and well suited for home chefs who really like to use the right piece of very, very sharp cutlery for the job their undertaking. Also, they are sharp. (Full disclosure, both I and J cut ourselves when preparing salmon and roasted root vegetables one night; we were used to old cruddy dull knives!) Read more

Best knives we've had

Just KFebruary 1, 2021

My husband is thrilled with this knife set. He cooks all our meals and is a fantastic chef who serves the best meals. He is thrilled with these knives, and they are gorgeous. The knife block is beautiful maple, too, and looks fantastic in our darker kitchen. These knives are sharp and beautifully made. The quality is high, the handles are perfectly shaped and the balance is just right so that the center of gravity is towards the front of the handle-- it really is comfortable. So far, we're super impressed with how attractive and well-made they are. They are also beautiful to look at-- including the wood block. It is an attractive and useful addition to the kitchen. Highly recommend this set. Anyone who takes cooking seriously should be consider this set. Read more
