I wanted something with some power but not enough to throw things everywhere. When I started using this, I thought that's what I had. I made cookies. Usually I do it all by hand, but due to a rotator cuff injury, I can't blend things in well. Everything started off well -- whipped together fat, sugar, eggs in a flash. But when I added flour, it all went downhill. The dough was not that thick -- I would hope to get beaters that could handle cream cheese for a cheese cake, and this clearly would not get anywhere near that. (I actually don't make cheese cake, but sometimes I beat cream cheese with other things, and that might be too much for these). Anyway, I put in the flour and I smelled the beaters overheating. Ended up having to finish things by hand after all. Luckily it was just a single batch and not that hard to blend, but I'm really sorry the beaters couldn't handle it. If you are sticking to things that are not thick, I think these would be fine. I like the speed and power. It's not so much that it flings things everywhere as a lot of powerful beaters do. They'd work for most things I do, but with this new injury, I need something that can handle a bit more. Update: I gave them another try with the same recipe, double batch but with more planning. I added my flour slowly until I figured it was about what the beaters could handle, then I did the rest by hand. That actually worked fine without an overheat. I still want something more powerful, but I am changing my 2 stars to 3. If you don’t do thick stuff, these will work well. I like that they stand up well on their own (though with a significant lean — they don’t hang over my bowl the way I prefer). I’d even go 3.5 stars. Just depends on what you’re looking to do. Got this because I dont have a big mixer and dont really need one but mixing mashed potatos and other things that are a bit thick is a hassle and this little hand mixer works like a charm. Runs great, doesnt bog down in thick potatoes, and for the price you simply cant beat it. Read more
