This is the REAL DEAL!! Buy it and throw away your ice packs!
I came across this cold therapy system while shopping for supplies to have on-hand to help during recovery after a total hip replacement surgery I underwent in April. Ice packs in the size I was looking for seemed to start around $50 and it was suggested I buy 2-4, since I would need to rotate these as they thawed. After a quick review of the Kinryopy Cold Therapy System, the benefits of having a device that circulates ice cold water around the entire surgical sight, for as long as I want, without any need to stop and rotate because my ice has melted were obvious! I have used this system, daily, for over a month now and couldn't be happier with my decision. A few things I have learned along the way are 1) the "quick-connect" attachment can be disconnected from the system during use, and only a drop or two of water comes out. This is useful should you need to get up for any reason during your session because it enables you to leave the pad attached to your body, but frees you from the machine and hose without spilling any water or having the need to prime the system afterward. You can then easily reconnect and continue your session. 2) I keep 14 of the standard 16.9 fl oz bottles of water frozen to use in the system to save on ice. You will use A LOT of ice otherwise. This system basically consists of a medium size ice chest/cooler that has been fitted with a small pump (similar to what you would use in an at-home aquarium or landscape fountain) that flows water through a hose and into the pad (that is attached to you with the included compression straps), which has small channels throughout that the cold water circulates through (think of a radiator). If only ice and water are used, a person can expect to go through around 2 bags of ice per day, if using the system 3 times daily. The frozen bottles of water replace a majority of the ice and can be refrozen as many times as needed. The instruction books say 4-6 but I found 7 to be the sweet spot. 7 bottles fit without any problem and allow me to use only a small amount of actual ice around them. This also maintains enough water in the system for the pump to run continuously without creating a vacuum. By switching to this method, I use only about a gallon-size bag of ice a day (which my ice-maker can easily handle) and the water in the system stays cold much longer. Most of the time, I only have to rotate the frozen bottles between sessions because the ice chest part of the system works extremely well at keeping the ice frozen and water cold. 3) The 3 included elastic compression straps work well holding the pad in place, even if you have to disconnect briefly, allowing you to keep the pad on and in position even while untethered from from the system. However, I sometimes will over-tighten the straps when putting the pad on. If you do this, it will not allow the water to flow properly into the pad. Just turn off the system and loosen the straps a little and that should solve the water flow issue. 4) The pump included with this system is whisper-quiet. This is a GREAT thing but, at first, made it hard to know if it was on or not. Just trust the lights on the remote control, and wait a few seconds for it to push water into the pad. Again, having used this machine multiple times a day for over a month, I have to say I am EXTREMELY satisfied with my purchase. I definitely saved money over buying several ice packs and ended up with a much better product that fit my needs perfectly. I will say I questioned the durability of this system when I first unboxed it. Even though all of the parts looked to be of decent quality, I assumed at some point I would get a leak and end up wet, because of the simplicity of the system. The quick-connects are plastic and I thought (incorrectly), wouldn't hold up with the amount of time I was expecting to ice. I also had concerns that the handle might rip off the ice chest due to the weight once filled with 7 frozen water bottles, ice, and water. BUT....I'm happy to say so far every part of this system is holding strong and working just as it should. I have logged MANY hours with this machine now and will say that I am totally satisfied and would HIGHLY recommend anyone having a hip or knee replacement, or anything that is going to require a lot of icing, purchase this system. I want to add that I wasn't given this product, I legitimately purchased this and I am a real person. I rarely do reviews so I apologize if I rambled, but I was very impressed with the Kinryopy Cold Therapy System and believe it is worth every dollar. It works better, stays cold longer, and helped reduce pain and swelling much better than your stand ice packs. If you're having a joint replacement, I highly recommend this system, you won't regret it. Read more
