Scale Cord and Measurement

We were excited to receive the digital scale for our senior center fitness facility. The idea was to replace an old manual medical scale with this digital scale. Pros: the numbers on the readout are large enough that the display can be on the floor next to the scale and is still very readable. The scale is small and doesn't take up much space. Cons: The electrical cord is rather short and we can't install the scale where we would like to install it because the cord will not reach the outlet. As a senior citizens facility, we don't want to attach the electrical cord to an extension cord because that may cause a trip hazard. We took a test group of 12 people and determined that there is about a 7 pound weight variance between the manual medical weight scale and the digital weight scale. We aren't sure which machine is really incorrect, or if both machines are off. The digital machine weights heavier than the manual medical scale. Our users aren't happy that they "gained" weight.
