Got this years ago and am still using it. I'm sure Amazon delivered quickly. They always do, but I honestly can't remember how long ago I got it. But, you find the right 'edge' to use with your knives and it sharpens them up pretty well. I'm not real good at cooking, but when I do, this thing sharpens up my chefs knife very well, thank you. :) I'm seeing all these 'ideas' at the bottom of the paragraph I'm typing in. Huh. 'Ease of use, length, speed, weight, grit'. Yes, my sharpening steel has all those qualities, but there is a sweet spot on one edge. Had to use it a few times to find it. Now, I've got it! Read more
I give this 5 stars with a caveat. This is more of a sharpening (removing metal) tool than a hone which straightens the cutting edge. The diamond coating is mildly aggressive at removing metal without GRINDING your edge away. Here's the thing, if you have knives that are seriously dull or the cutting edge is chipped then this is not the tool you need. You'll need to do some heavy grinding to fix that. Or just chuck the old set and start over. But, if you have knives in fairly decent shape that need a little tuning up then this perfect for the job. A few swipes at a 20 degree angle and you'll find your previously semi-dull knife slices through meat and veggies like a dream. If your looking for a scalpel edge this won't get you there but not what it's intended for. Sharpening knives is easy once you get the technique down. If your a novice at sharpening knives watch a couple of videos on YouTube on how to use a hone and you'll love this sharpener/hone. The same princpals apply. Once you get it down you'll be sharpening every knife you own. One tool to improve all the knives you own seems like a good purchase to me so it gets 5 stars and well deserved. For those who are more technical, the diamond chips leave a microscopic serrated edge which is great for food but catches when doing the paper test. Read more
I purchased this steel for after hunting season when the meat is prepared for the freezer. However when I opened box I had to try the steel out. I put an edge on every knife in the house. Seems to be very good . Nice edges, easy to hold on too, sturdy ( will not test this intentionally) and hopefully durable. Read more
First let me state, this gets five stars because it is, what I expected for what I paid. Do not by this item thinking your getting something worth more than $20. This is the second one I've bought (different brands). They have both been the same thing. They come supper rough. The roughness wares off very quickly. This is by desine. Just like any sharpening tool there is a " break-in" pireod. I can not speak to the durability of this one. The first one was we)l worth the cost. This one seems to be "breaking in" about the same so I expect it will last a asseptable amount of time. As far as use goes I use these mostly, for putting a fine edge on garage and yard tools(dikes, ten snips, hatchets, etc.). In my opinion they are not the kind of quality you want for fine cut wear. That being said, the old one I have. Is now worn down to a point. That I have started using it as a honing (I don't know if I spelled that correct) tool. When they are new. I will use them to put a knew edge on my kitchen knifes. If their edge needs, to be straightened, or a new edge. Read more
I like this knife steel as it hones in just a few swipes of the blade. It has a diamond coating so it will eventually wear out. I'll let you know in a few years (LOL) Some knife fanatics do not like abrasive hones... ignore them as their arguments do not matter worth fly dung in a wind storm ( LOL) Read more

I sharpen our kitchen knives several times a year. This diamond honing rod keeps a good edge on all the knives between sharpening. Half a dozen passes on this and I'm back to cutting paper thin tomato slices nice and easy. This diamond honing rod is something I've wanted for a while, works better and faster than the steel rod I used to use. Might not ever need to buy another one, looks like this will last a long time, good quality, price was great. Read more
