Great entry into Disgaea

Anthony C.November 27, 2023

So as for Disgaea 7 it is a pretty solid entry but i'll list some pros and cons. Some pros are that I really love the addition of Juice bar, item reincarnation, item traits, Research squad, and evil gacha. All of those new mechanics are absolutely fantastic and I also enjoy the item world in this one too. Now as for some of the cons are that some of the campaign map designs aren't as good as some previous titles, no map skits but the VN storytelling still gets the story across and is enjoyable. I liked the story. The 3d models are getting better and look great in this, it's growing on me. So all in all for $45 it's a easy pick up for SRPG lovers especially with the amazing feedback look that disgaea games gives. Read more

Playable for hours

I had played all of the prior Disgaea's and was so disappointed with D6 that I never finished it. I was leary of buying this one, but the fun is back! Great story, lots of post play and extra customization. Still working up the ladder in Carnage world, but keep going back. Definitely need to get this one! Read more

About half way through...

InqJanuary 9, 2024

Disgaea 5 is still the best to date as far as I'm concerned. This one doesn't have as near as much in it, and the newer systems (e.g. item enhancements) leave much to be desired. Worth the purchase, worth playing, standard Disgaea storyline and character spread. I am not particularly pleased by the abandonment of the Bonus Rank system for Item World delving, since it has been replaced with something much less involved. They did, however, bring back the males and females for most of the job classes which is appealing. All in all, worth adding to your collection if you enjoy the series/franchise. If you're new to Disgaea, it's a good introduction. Read more

Back to Old Formula + Item Re-incarnation , Jumbability

VincentOctober 18, 2023

After Disgaea 6 been heavily criticized by the fans for auto-battle mechanic and bloated stats. It went back to manual grinding and added weapon re-incarnation and Jumbability I personally prefer auto battles as I’m getting older with more responsibilities, but there are tactics/strategies to gain levels fast (but you got to put in the work) Item re-incarnation is like it sounds. You can set item back to level 1 and keep the same stats. You must beat the item world for that item to do the reincarnation Jumbability just makes you big on the side of the map. Not sure why this is added, guess huge form was make popular by Pokemon’s Gigantamax/Dynamax forms. Able to attack in a 4x4 grid anywhere on the map (no special moves) or another Jumbabilified enemy for 3 turns (you can increase by adding artifact to your character you jumbaify). I tend not to Jumbabify due to the fact that enemies will follow suit and it can be devastating to your team especially if you have a lot of them on the field/map. Aside from boss battles, enemies don’t use ability unless you do it first. As a normal unit, you only can attack an Jumblifed enemy if you’re on the edge of the map next to the Jumblifed enemy. Also there are large treasure chests only Jumblifed enemies can open Art style remains similar to Disgaea 6, but more touched up. Guess pixelated artsytle takes too much resources?? Theres options for performance or graphics mode. I find both exactly the same on the PS5. There’s this area at your base/hub world where you go down the stairs and there’s always frame rate dips regardless of what setting you have it on There’s also paid DLC. -Plot/Story: Takes place in Feudal Japan. You’re a con-artist Fuji who takes advantage of a rich girl, Pirilika to pay off huge debt which leads to collecting the 7 founding weapons/infernal treasure to defeat the final boss. Still have same sense of humor with self-centered main protagonist. No pop culture references and sci-fi themes this time around but Pirilika keep saying proverbs and popular sayings incorrectly occasionally which gets a small chuckle/smirk The scale is drastically lowered compared to past titles No prism rangers, Asagi, and much less emphasis on prinnys, and angels this time around Personally wasn’t into the setting, but the characters make up for it -Gameplay Grid based strategy RPG Aside from the main new features I mentioned (weapon re-incarnation, Jumbability, etc), There’s no fusing or magi-change There’s a Hell Gauge where if a character is holding an infernal treasure (basically most main characters) when meter is full can do an ultimate attack. Its sort of like Overlord skills in Disgaea 5 Limited Auto Battle. You can auto battle a stage, but only if you beat it first. Also there’s a set number of times you can auto battle. You must manual battle to build up auto-battle credit 40+ classes to choose from. Most need to be unlocked by doing quests When healed at hospital you get currency you can spend at Gotcha machine to get items, weapons and gear Juice bar. After a battle you get extra exp and mana banked where you can spend on characters to level up without grinding them individually. Great to power level weaker units Overall, had a fun time. Great refinement to the series (although I miss the unlimited auto battles). Highly recommend if you’re a disgaea fan Read more

Don’t like some of the changes from previous disgaea

JasonOctober 11, 2023

Limited auto play, classes locked behind story progress, only 4 skills per a character, some innocents removed the more important ones, and a lot more small things all add up to a much lesser experience. It’s not horribly bad, but definitely prefer to replay 5 or 6 than this one. I will probably finish up the story and grind it some and shelf it never to be seen again. I won’t be playing this one 1000s of hours. It really feels like decisions were made to make it less options and more controlled growth Read more
