Underrated and Unpolished Gem
Yurukill is a game developed in part and published by Izanagi Games. The game is divided by visual novel segments with dialogue, interaction/investigation puzzles familiar to those franchises and gameplay parts that's the shmup part of the game. The art, the soundtrack, the localization, the setting, the familiar feeling of doing these puzzles that reminds me of Zero Escape or Danganropa. Fans of either genre (shmups/puzzles/virtual novel) may find enjoyment here. This game is not a Triple-A game. But it's a solid 7, and if you enjoy these types of Japanese games, you may want to pick it up. The presentation is great, it comes with a full color booklet and code for a soundtrack sampler. The cover isn't so much reversible in the sense that it overs two different covers. It has nice artwork on the inside of the cover across the front and back, but no logo or writing. Personally, I found the shmup portion the best, and they apparently got help creating it with shmup veterans G-Rev. The Score Attack Mode will definitely give shmup enthusiasts a new challenge for themselves, but having to sit through 8-10 hours of VN to get to it might not be fun. Maybe there is a code to unlock the shmup section from the beginning? Personally, I would have wanted less Virtual Novel and more shmup in this game. However, it was still an interesting experiment, and I don't regret my time with it. Read more
