I’ve had Matcha tea before, and I expected it to taste somewhat different than it did. It tasted better than I anticipated, but it needed honey or other sweeteners to enhance the flavor. When I opened the jar, I was surprised to see it release some smoke, which concerned me a bit before I decided to try it. Ultimately, I went for it anyway, as it has a beautiful green coloring and excellent consistency. I’ve experienced other Matcha teas that didn’t have an authentic texture. While I had to add some sweetener, it tasted decent for a zero-sugar Matcha tea. Additionally, I like the container in which it comes in. It seals easily and is convenient for storage, so I don't have to worry about the Matcha going bad. Read more

The quality of this is beautiful. When I first opened the sealed lid, the powder was so fine and sealed, it looked like mist flowing up and out of the canister. The texture is silky smooth, the flavor is vibrant and friendly, not like some of the older more bitter ones you find out there in plastic bags. The aroma is sweet and mellow. I have never had matcha this wonderful before. It's definitely worth the price. The pictures are 1/2 tsp and 7 oz water. Read more

I wouldn't normally recommend ceremonial matcha for matcha lattes, but I didn't enjoy drinking this on its own. Instead of a traditional matcha preparation, the instructions have you mixing up to a teaspoon in six ounces of water and mixing with a milk frother. This... does not make for a good cup of tea. It's unpleasantly bitter, lacking in the nuanced flavors you'd expect of good matcha, and being unsifted, it doesn't fully dissolve into the water. Despite being a ceremonial matcha, however, this product listing seems to have an emphasis on matcha lattes. With that in mind, I added a bit of sugar and almond milk, and it was... okay. Not particularly better or worse than any other matcha latte I've ever had, though if I'd known this it what I would be making, I would've had some ice on hand. The issue is that this is an expensive product, twenty-five dollars per ounce at time of writing. If you want a matcha latte, for the same price you can buy a one pound bag of premium grade matcha with sweetener already in it. Read more

I love making matcha ice cream in the summer time. This ceremonial grade matcha powder is perfect for that. I also make tea and smoothie with it. This matcha has strong flavor and a very smooth taste. It looks fresh with its bright green color. I can’t wait to make delicious ice cream. Read more
While this matcha is fresh by sight and smell, I found it to be very low in any flavor rather than my expectation of it being full of umami. I think it gets back to the terroir. I followed it with another one from Uji that I still had on hand and it was much the same, a little bitterness up front but not much umami to follow. Those are in contrast to another brand from Uji that was bursting with umami, which makes me think it's just the terroir of the farm where this was grown. That said, on with the rest of my review... After preparing it as I always do (1 tsp matcha, 4 oz water, sifted and whisked), it had a light but good aroma. Other than a little upfront bitterness, though, I don't get much depth or complexity. On the plus side, it doesn't have the grassiness or other aspects I get from lower grade matcha. It tastes good, just light. It's probably a good matcha to serve as an introduction, since it is so tame. In terms of pricing, this is on the lower end of ceremonial matchas, which is nice. I've had much less expensive "ceremonial" grade teas that were not graded correctly. This is light in flavor but it definitely has the right characteristics for the grade. Note when you open the tin that the matcha is loose. Most other tins I've seen have the matcha in second, sealed pouch inside. Overall, though this matcha didn't overwhelm me, it's fresh, is of high quality, and has a nice but light flavor. Read more
This is some excellent quality, ceremonial grade matcha powder. It comes in a small metal container that's about 2" across and 2" tall, and it doesn't include any special accessories or tools or anything else you might need for mixing the matcha. It's easy to mix up though as long as you have the whisk and bowl, and it makes excellent, high-quality matcha. You could also use it as an ingredient in cooking but at this price point it's not meant for that at all, for this price you're getting a very small amount but very high-grade matcha powder. As I said, it's a very small container; you don't get much. It's only 30 g (1 oz) of matcha powder, and while it's very high grade, it's also very expensive for such a small amount. Whether this is a good deal to you or not, you'll have to decide for yourself. It tastes great and it mixes very easily thanks to the high grade of matcha powder. If you're looking for a little bit of it, then this is a good choice! * I only review things that I personally use myself on a regular and continued basis. * I always give my full, honest, unbiased and unfiltered opinion on everything I review. * I will not hold back or avoid describing any issues I have with a product. * I write exactly what I think about things - the good, the bad, the ugly, and the questionable. * If I get multiple of something it's because I regularly use and need both of them. * And, I will update my review if something breaks, stops working as intended, or otherwise doesn't hold up as expected. Update: I've drank this matcha for a few days in a row now and it's resulted in vomiting and feeling sick a few hours after consumption each day. I'm not sure if it's because the powder isn't in a sealed bag in the tin or something else, but I've never had a reaction like this to matcha so I can't recommend it. Good quality matcha powder, unsweetened and smooth. Perfect for iced lattes, tin is reusable which is nice. Beautiful color, mild flavor and easy to blend. Read more
