I bought this as a backup for my studio apartment - which frequently loses heat whenever it gets below zero in the winter. Everything works like a charm after setting it up and breaking it in according to the manual. The plug does get warm - and the manual clearly states that it will - but it's never gotten *hot*. There was a faint smell during the initial breaking-in phase - but I've not smelled anything since. The heater makes virtually no noise aside from the normal sounds all radiators make when initially heating up, it heats up the room very quickly, and has not destroyed my electric bill. It works like a trooper when temperatures outside are below freezing, and handles the extreme cold better than the baseboards in my apartment do! The remote works great and makes it very easy to adjust the unit. Yes, the lights do go out on their own when it's dark - and come back on again when you press a button on the unit or the remote. The beeps can also be muted. My only real complaint is that the "handle" could stand to be a bit deeper and include some kind of lip to grip and hold on to. As it is, the handle is so shallow as to be nearly useless - I hesitate to even call it a handle. It is very awkward to pick the unit up and carry it if you need to move it up stairs or over rough terrain. I might also make the cord-wrap a bit larger and deeper - the cord does not completely wrap around for storage unless you're very careful and neat about it. It honestly gives me the impression that nobody at Dreo ever actually tested the handle or the cord-wrap as nobody with a brain would've approved them the way they are. If you're not moving the unit around a lot, however, you probably won't ever notice these two issues. Otherwise, the unit is nearly perfect and I am very happy with my purchase! Read more

It is most important to understand that this does not replace a furnace, but merely heats an area of your home. I did not find this successful downstairs in an open concept area because hot air rises. I utilize this upstairs in the hallway to help with ambient temperature and it does work. I would estimate my upstairs square footage somewhere between 500 and 600 ft.² just does take a little bit to warm up but overtime, it heats up and keeps the area nice and warm. We live on the end of a townhouse, so of course, it is the most drafty. This helps safely increase the heat when our thermostat is locked at 69°F. When the heater is running, it is very toasty and you can feel it. I actually had to turn it off at one point because I was getting too warm in my bedroom down the hall. Something that many reviews fail to mention is that they did not read the instructions and probably turned it on right away. Had they read the instructions, there would not have been an odor. Unfortunately, too many people are in a rush and automatically assume something is wrong. The instructions clearly state to maximum heat it in a ventilated area for at least two hours as it is a new product. I ventilated it in a bathroom with an exhaust and the odor went away. It is absolutely quiet and doesn’t make a sound. There are safety features that include a timer as well as different heat intensities as well as ample safety points in the instruction guide. The remote is handy, and the product is itself is modern and sleek looking. I own an oscillating fan from the same company that has been running for four years straight, so the brand was never an issue. I will continue to come back and review this, but for now, it has a good rating with me. I’ll check back in in the spring. Edit 1: One week later, this thing is absolutely working. Despite it being rated for a 300 sq/ft area, it heated our entire upstairs to the point the thermostat read 80F when it locked ay 69F (obviously this is too hot but it was impressive). Our upstairs is about 600 sq/ft so that’s double what this is rated for. If we had a one level home, as long as there is good airflow, I don’t see why it couldn’t heat a larger area say, 800 sq/ft. This came just in time for winter. As I write this, it’s 13F outside but it’s a nice 75F in here. No regrets. An excellent value for the price and a quality product based on materials and durability. Edit 2: Yowsers this thing cooked me. I usually run it for 4 to 6 hours a day. Turned it on a 7pm and got cozy in bed. It’s down the hall about 13 feet and around the corner. Fell asleep. Woke up at 11:30pm and I was drenched in sweat and thirsty. I looked at the thermostat and it was 80°F! I had to turn it off. I’ll update again as soon as I get my monthly power bill for running it 6 hours a day Update: I have fallen asleep with this thing on 80°F on a 6H timer with in running down the hall and the bedroom being a hot 79°F to the point I’m sweating and have to turn it off. It’s still doing very well. I got my bill back for the month and it’s only up $45-ish from the normal amount despite running this about 6 hours per a day every day. That’s not really all that bad. It stays off during the work day and turns on when I get home and turns off after I’ve fallen asleep Read more

Pros: Heats well on H1-2-3, doesn't dry out the air, remote and front buttons easy to use. Cons: Eco setting sucks. Lights turn of randomly; thermostat is way off. (I have to set it on 76 to keep the room at 71. I have yet to figure out what causes it to turn heat on or off as it seems to do so arbitrarily at different temperatures.) Customer service was of no help. Told me there was no replacement available for this version and that a difference of five to seven degrees was normal. (Even though the description literally says: " Accurate Temp Control: This DREO oil filled heater has 3 heat settings and a 24-hour timer. Its compensation algorithm and high-precision NTC sensor ensure accuracy within 1°F, letting you customize temperatures from 41°F to 95°F while saving energy") Recommended that I take videos of what is happening with the lights and send them an email which is kind of hard to do when you don't know when it's going to happen. Update: Customer service reached out to me and after discussing the problem offered a complete refund. I am satisfied with the results and found the customer service rep to be professional and helpful. Read more
