An appliance salesman told us about this detergent and of course, I was skeptical, but I agreed to try it and I have never gone back. We use the detergent that comes in a box. I am super weird about all the plastic waste in the world and that is what initially made me want to try it. One box lasts us about 6 months of weekly washings. It cleans the clothes awesome and there is no perfume (allergies love this). My husband got car oil on a white t-shirt. I took a little of this detergent and let it soak on there for a few minutes. The oil came right out on the first wash. Give it a try! You will be so happy you did, plus there is so little waste. ps. YOU DO NOT NEED SOFTENER. It is built in, so even less waste. Read more
Good product! They changed the packaging and it is the worst product I have ever dealt with! When you try to dispense it explodes and the detergent goes everywhere! Huge soapy mess to clean up! Now I will have to buy something to dispense it from! Buy only if you want to clean up messes! Read more
I've used this brand for many years. I like the unscented. It comes with a small pump bottle which I refill. It cleans beautifully. You don't need a lot per wash so it's economical. The first time I bought it at the appliance store when I got my new washer. They recommended it. They sold it for twice the price. I was glad when Amazon started carrying it so much cheaper. Giving 5 Stars all around! We have used Excelsior Fragrance Free for almost 3 years in our Electrolux Washer. Fragrance Free - YES! Amazing Value for the Money - YES! Incredible how very little amount of detergent used per load - 3 squirts from the Eco Bottle included in this order!! Cleans thoroughly and does not leave residue or odor on clothing or inside washer. Thank you Amazon & MAB for Excelsior Laundry Detergent! Read more
Mixed review. I bought the unscented version. I always buy unscented detergent. Previously used unscented Tide or other conventional detergents, preferably ones not tested on animals. I love doing laundry and am very picky about what I use. PROS; It does seem to get clothes clean/seems to help with anti static/ use only a little(though remember that you always use less of any detergent with a front load washer), and I like the little pump bottle, makes dispensing convenient. CONS:It actually does leave a wierd chemical scent on clothes, unlike unscented Tide or other conventional detergent which is truly unscented. I would describe it as the smell of Epson salts and Lye combined. It is a light scent and fades some over a few days as it airs out, but not completely. Therefore I don't use this product on sheets or bedding because I can't stand this scent so close to my face. I wonder what these chemicals are. Also pricey, but I probably would not care so much if not for the chemical scent it imparts on clothes. Also there is no mention of animal testing on the bottle, leading me to believe that they probably do animal test. UDATE; I just found a new use for this product. During recent rain storms some flood water seeped into my car and onto the carpet. I dried the carpet with towels and a heated fan. It dried but a couple days later there was a musty smell in the part of the carpet that had gotten wet. I put a tablespoon (3 pumps) of Excelsor into a small clean bucket with about 2 inches of water and made a soapy solution. I scrubbed the effected carpet with a thick terry cloth wash cloth and the solution, placing enough solution to let it soak into the carpet. 30 minutes later I redried the area and the next day the smell was GONE. I might consider giving this product 5 stars but I still would like to know more about the long term safety of this product and also if they do animal testing. The company does not seem forthright enough about this info to warrant 5 stars from me, but I can tell you it does take musty smells out of carpet which seems like a miracle when you have this problem. I don't use any other laundry soap for my front load HE washer for several years and always buy the unscented soap. As some have pointed out, there is a very light scent, but I'm not sensitive to it and don't smell it in my clothes. The company who sold me the washing machine highly recommended it and used to sell it. However, Amazon is the only place I can find it now. Once I tried some other soaps. I only use white vinegar for my softener, but with other soaps you get a musty smell left in the front rubber of the machine. Not so with this soap. I've used it in well water and city treated water with the same good results. You only need one tablespoon per load. I only do about 3-4 loads a week. The bottle lasts a loooong time. Read more
