I gave it five stars because I knew what I was buying and it was advertised excellently. I wanted a sleek, discreet, and easy-to-use OEM camera. I got just that. Installation was a lot smoother than I thought for the rear camera. Lastly, the application is easy to use, and the image quality is adequate for my needs. Important notes: stuffing the rat nest of wires into the cover for the front camera and securing it is tricky. Read more
I initially ordered one camera for my 4Runner and for my wife’s VW. Immediately after I placed the order Fitcamx reached out to me and asked for pictures of the car mirrors to make sure I ordered the correct items. After sending them, Fitcamx responded that the camera for the VW won’t fit and offered an alternative solution. Installing the dash cam on the 4Runner was a matter of 5 minutes, except routing the cable for the rear view camera of course. The cam works flawlessly since then. Nothing more to add here. I wanted to install a waterproof rear camera which I still had at home, but I couldn’t figure out the wiring which is not suitable for a regular aftermarket camera. I reached out to Fitcamx again to ask for some technical explanation. They offered to send me a waterproof rear camera instead, at no charge. How could someone complain? Read more
So as someone previously stated, it is VERY hard to tuck the wires in without damaging the very weak clips. But it also isn't supposed to sit flush to the windshield (which the oem isn't either). Don't forget to remove the twist tie over the wire harness too. Their instructional video isn't helpful. And I had to watch the old video on Amazon for the rear camera installation. You'll need to purchase an additional clip to attach to the rear headliner as well. And be careful not to touch the glue inside the headliner when tucking the rear camera wire. It's plenty long so you have enough to shove in those junctions. I attached it where the rear windshield wiper comes down and it can see better after the snow storm and salt has coated the back window. The app connectivity was incredibly easy for my Google Pixel to attach to. It does have to be running in order to view on your phone without the sd/reader. The reader has both a USB and USB c attachment which is a HUGE plus. The view is incredible and look forward to having this addition to my 2021 4runner TRD pro. The worry I have is that we did bend both clips while attaching... So when we need a new windshield the operator might break those. I'd rate it higher if the clip plastic was high quality for the money. Read more
An honest review. I would strongly advise against buying this camera. It very regularly malfunctions and runs into issues where it does not save videos to the memory card. Tech support has been responsive and will advise updating a patch - but the main purpose of a dash cam is to instill confidence and peace of mind. That confidence is impossible to sustain or have if the camera regular malfunctions and does not save or preserve recordings. Would strongly advise against purchasing this camera. Read more
Very easy install. Watch the install video, pay attention to how the cover slides down towards the dash to remove and up towards the roof to install the new cam unit. Take your time and be gentle and it’s easy. Rear camera works as well as the front. The app is fairly intuitive but not many options but that’s okay. The picture quality is amazing. Overall very happy with the purchase. The simple install including plugin play wiring is the best. Read more
If you looking for a clean dashcam this is the best OEM dashcam. It works perfect very easy to install it fits perfect I have 4Runner 2024 TRD PRO and it’s amazing. My only advise don’t put all the cables inside the box because is not going to close. Keep the camera rear cable out the box . Read more
Camera seems solid and instructions were easy to follow, BUT what they don’t mention anywhere or in the video is how difficult it is to get all the wires and new connections stuffed back into the housing. I was looking at their installation video as well as some online and I realized there is a reason why none of the videos show how to get the front camera housing back on due to the difficulty and amount of time spent. They don’t provide any instructions on where to maneuver the wires so there is enough room to close the housing. I only got it to slide back on by improvising and letting the power wire to the camera stick out at the top. So basically I couldn’t get all the wires to go under the housing (after trying for about an hour). Read more
So far I am loving this! Only set up the front camera for not and ran the wire for the rear, as I needed to buy a seperate mount from etsy to install it into the rear because if how 4runners windows roll down. Looking at it I can't see any of the obnoxious wires and it looks like it came with the car, an exact match. Yes you have to be careful with the clips, but I forgot about that and they are still fine, so I'm not sure how rough the others were. It was a little harder to out back onto the window but once I got it, it just clicked into place. The app is nice too and I can even see license plates it's so clear. It does cut off all internet and wifi when you use it tho but not a big deal since it's constantly recording regardless of the app. I definitely recommend this dash cam, it's exactly what I needed.
