Worth it.
Reading glasses are the bane of my existence. I've worn glasses since I was 4 years old and got gas permeable contacts when I was 16. My contacts deal with an astigmatism and I see (distance-wise) much better with my contacts than when I wear glasses. But as I've aged, my near vision has gone down the crapper, and I find that I can't see anything small without help. I've tried so many pairs of reading glasses, and even begged my eye doctor to prescribe a lens so I could get real, well made readers with quality lenses. No such luck. But I've finally found reading glasses that I actually LIKE. These Foster Grant Multifocus glasses are great! First, the lens itself is the closest to a "real" lens than I've every encountered: it's not dingy, foggy and dark which is the case with other cheap readers. There's no distortion, pockets of waviness or other distracting optical aberrations. My eyes don't feel stressed after wearing them for extended periods. I really love this particular design, as well. Originally I bought a pair of wire rimmed readers but that style has the hinged nose piece, which is fine when you're wearing them, but if I put them on top of my head (like so many of us do when we want to keep them handy but need to look to the distance), the hinge would tangle in my hair. I'd look silly untangling them, it would leave my hair a mess, and worst of all, pull out clumps of hair. This style looks good - they're big enough to cover the eye but aren't silly looking. I like that they cover the whole eye - I'm not tempted to look over them, which I think makes me look older. They have a nice weight, but they're light but feel well made. Speaking of well made... I've had these glasses for a couple of months, and a while ago I managed to put a stack of textbooks down on top of them. The one ear piece was badly bent but I was able to just bent it back into place. Honestly, they should have been goners as soon as it happened, and I kept waiting for them to actually break, but it took more than 5 weeks. I just ordered 2 more pairs, one for home and one for school. They're expensive, but well worth it. Read more
