This is a moveable entry door mat that will protect your floors from mud, snow, rain, etc. getting tracked in, while helping your guests keep from slipping and falling if you have tile or concrete. The based of the mat is rubberized plastic - there are no holes through it, so any water that drips onto the mat will remain there. The topside is covered with heavy-duty angled felt ridges about 1/8-inch high, that not only assist people in scraping mud and dirt off the bottom of their shoes, it also serves to absorb water that might otherwise run off the edge of a just-plain-rubber mat. Yet combined, it's not so thick that it will jam or bind under most doors. It is still readily movable by one normal person or two lightweights, so it can be taken outdoors and shaken off or dried out as needed. Of course it can also be vacuumed, but it could collect more filth than most vacuums will be able to easily handle. Note that this mat comes rolled up, so will take awhile to fully flatten out so that its entire surface is in contact with the floor, to provide the maximum traction and friction and avoid sliding around. Living in the forest you can't imagine the things you drag into the house on your shoes, and this mat is a great solution to that, no matter where you live ! I got this because it fits perfect in my "mud room" and removes everything from your shoes BEFORE you track it into the kitchen hallway ! The mat is great quality, and is completely washable, and I expect it will last many winters. It has a rubber backing that keeps it in place, and has already collected an assortment of pine needles, road salt, and lots of other nasties that you don't want in your house. I use a shop vac to tidy it up for now, but when springtime comes again, and my outside water has thawed, I can carry it out into the driveway, and give it a good washing.
