I have tried the non OEM brands of this filter for my GE fridge and wasn't as happy as I am with the GE branded filter. Both filters provided good tasting clear water. Both filters fit fine and lasted for 6-12 months depending on usage. The reason I choose the GE filters is the much higher flow rate. The GE filters provide a flow rate of 0.9 gallons per minute, or about twice as fast as generic. The non-OEM filters usually offer 0.4 to 0.5 GPM flows (for the ones that are labelled with a rate). This doesn't sound like a big difference but it is when you are standing there filling your nalgene bottles for a family of four.
