Our new kitchen cupboards provided only enough space for a 12” deep microwave. I did a lot of research and this GE Profile model was the only one that fit. I was disappointed that there weren’t more options especially after I read some of the reviews. I felt skeptical I would be happy or even satisfied with this choice but there were no other options so I ordered it. I was wrong! I have no complaints whatsoever, and in fact, this slim microwave has completely outperformed my best expectations. I am so impressed with the job it does. It cooks potatoes perfectly every time! Not only does it function well, and runs quietly, it looks fantastic too! I should mention it arrived quickly and was packaged securely so it came out of the box in perfect condition. Personally, I have no idea what the critics were talking about, because I couldn’t be happier with this purchase. Read more

The vendor shipped promptly. Price was excellent. The microwave was double packed, so it arrived in perfect condition. This unit replaced another GE just like it that finally died after 10 years of heavy usage. The microwave is an under-cabinet installation and the original hardware didn't work with the new unit....backing plates and enclosure cabinet securing bolt holes were in new locations and unalike. I did not buy the installation package, so I had to improvise, as did another reviewer. I simply used the rigid cardboard box it arrived in to cut a template the exact size of the top of the unit (with the hole positions marked), I placed it under the cabinet and drilled new holes through the template with a 1/8" pilot bit from the bottom up. Then I enlarged those holes to 3/8" from the top down to provide adjustment room. The original bolts were the correct size, so my son held the unit in place while I set the bolts using 2" fender washers. Worked like a charm and cost me $1.40 at TrueValue for the washers. The microwave is obviously one that I endorse, as it was a replacement....and I have the same model at our beach home and mountain cottage, plus this new one at our primary residence. I highly recommend this particular GE microwave. It is reliable, user friendly, compact, quite attractive and has all necessary functions for non-serious cooking where a larger, more powerful convection type microwave with temp probe might be a better choice. You will not be disappointed. Read more

I purchased the GE PEM31SFSS Profile Stainless Steel Microwave along with the matching GE JX827SFSS 27" Stainless Steel Deluxe Microwave Trim Kit, they go together. I am replacing a 16-year-old GE Profile microwave whose electronic brain became senile and got confused easily. May it rest in peace. I am risking the issues other talk about in their review because I think they have been fixed. And as my space is small I don’t have much of a choice. Please note, if you install this unit with the GE JX827SFSS 27" Stainless Steel Deluxe Microwave Trim Kit the microwave sits forward 1 inch (see pictures). Some people have been disturbed by this. However, I think it wonderful. This gives you 1 more inch of clearance on the back. Had I truly understood this I would have been able to get the next model larger. And secondly the microwave is now nearly flush to the cabinet doors on each side. Had the trim kit kept it flush to the cabinet surface it would have ‘looked’ recessed. Additionally, the kit will solve any issues with the door opening because of the hinge design (as you open the door it lowers a little). The kit is made to accommodate this. So far with nearly 2 months of use I have had no trouble what-so-ever. The build quality seems high. It is hard to imagine other have problem with peeling paint as the inside looks anodized. But time will tell. What I like about the microwave • It is compact but still has a turn table. My old GE Profile microwave did not. • Very quiet in operation. Surprisingly quite. But maybe I am just used to the noise of the old unit? • Looks high end. Our old unit had sort of an industrial look (see pictures for the new unit and the old one for comparison). • Heats well and evenly. • Popcorn setting does not burn the popcorn. I had that problem with other microwaves. What I do not like about the microwave • The buttons are hard to see in anything but bright light. The markings are thin and dim against the background. Check out the old GE profile picture for comparison. It was bold and bight. Maybe if the keypad were back lit the thin markings would not be an issue. • I feel it could use a bit more power. The next model up is more powerful so I guess I got what I paid for. Read more

This microwave has had problems from the start. Upon arrival it made a terrible noise when the turntable was on. I contacted the seller and after some back and forth they sent a small part to replace in the center. That did nothing and they would not take a return. When I sent videos they still did not seem to comprehend the problem and thought the noise was tolerable. It’s not. It continues to make a terrible sound every time it turns. Most recently, I noticed a strong smell of something burning while warming up food. It had only been on 30 seconds and I turned it off quickly due to the heavy smell. It appears there is a short somewhere on the microwave. It hasn’t even lasted 18 months and is already broken. Save your money and purchase another product and from another seller. Read more
