Very good fixed angle sharpening system

Comfortable and worksFebruary 14, 2026✓ Verified purchase

I’m 64 and have been sharpening anything with an edge by hand since I was very young. I’ve always been interested in a fixed angle sharpening system but I didn’t want to pay a minimum of $300 for one. There are a lot of videos on YouTube explaining the pros and cons of the Xarilk gen 3. There is a learning curve but it’s not difficult to learn. Setup is easy. For the price this is well made sharpener and works. I have sharpened several knives of different sizes and grinds so far with good results. Start out with a cheap knife so if you make a mistake it’s not a big deal. The diamond stones included have an aluminum base but I recommend a coarser starting stone of 180 grit with a minimum of 240 because this makes sharpening a lot faster. This is a great system and will last a long time. I recommend this sharpener and would buy it again. Read more

Good platform

This is my first fixed-angle sharpener, though I’m not new to sharpening. I have a WorkSharp Ken Onion blade grinder and a bunch of diamond stones for freehand sharpening. This system allows you to achieve extremely sharp edges, sharper than I’ve managed with other systems, with a minimal learning curve. It’s not without its flaws as a fixed system, but if you want sharp knives, pair it with some high-quality diamond stones, and you’re set. There are a couple of things I wish were included and offered as a package deal: 1) The angle is infinitely adjustable within its design limits, which is cool, but I doubt most of us care to sharpen to 15.26 degrees. In addition to the adjustable angles, I wish there was a detent system or some way to repeatedly lock into common angles (10, 13, 15, 17, 20, etc.) without needing a digital angle meter. I also think they should offer a complete package ready to go out of the box, including more stones, a digital angle meter, a strop, rod stops, and their new center Y clamp. (Speaking of the center clamp, if you’re doing pocket knives, do yourself a favor and get it ASAP.) That would really make this system 100% ready to go right out of the box. Speaking of stones, I can’t compare them to other stones for fixed-angle sharpeners, but they have worked well enough so far on 8 different knives, all of which are 20CV, M390, and M4. The only minor gripe I have with this item is that a couple of the screws needed adjusting (flip mechanism and angle clamp), which was extremely simple, which is why it’s a gripe. If it’s so simple to fix, why couldn’t it have been done at the factory? But once again, it was very simple and didn’t require any special tools to adjust to my liking. Overall, as I mentioned above, I think this is a great system if you add some higher-quality stones. I’m not really sure what a more expensive sharpener would buy you. I forgot to mention that I had a small issue with the regular clamps that came with it, and Xarilk was extremely responsive and shipped me new clamps. It took a couple of weeks to get, but they took care of me right away. Read more

Professional results on a budget-friendly

MaxJanuary 4, 2026✓ Verified purchase

This unit is essentially a budget-friendly clone of the TFPROF Kadet Pro, offered at roughly one-fifth of the price. Pros: Proven and effective design Excellent value for the money Includes three aluminum-backed, electroplated diamond stones, allowing you to start sharpening right out of the box Responsive customer service that’s open to feedback and product improvements Cons: Materials are not premium Quality control can be inconsistent Not ideal for every user I chose this unit after brief but focused research comparing multiple designs, including several well-known high-end systems. I ultimately went with Xarilk’s Gen 3 because it offers much of the flexibility found in premium fixed-blade sharpening systems at an excellent price point. As a hobbyist (not a commercial sharpener), it appeared more than capable of meeting my needs while still delivering professional-level results. Straight out of the box, I sharpened five J.A. Henckels International kitchen knives along with my Pro-Tech EDC. Even without a strop, the results were genuinely impressive. That said, this system is not foolproof—results depend heavily on the user’s understanding of both the system and the sharpening process. Like any precision tool, performance is largely determined by skill and technique. While the unit does maintain and lock sharpening angles on both sides of the blade, an inclinometer or angle gauge is highly recommended which is not included. I did encounter an issue related to quality control and design, where the unit failed to lock securely at certain angles. However, this was promptly addressed and resolved by the Xarilk team. The tool is primarily constructed from machined aluminum, paired with various alloy steels and a small number of plastic components. Proper setup and adjustment require an understanding of the limitations and tolerances of these materials. Improper handling can result in stripped threads, bent components, or permanent damage. I also purchased Xarilk’s six-piece diamond stone set and Xarilk's Y clamp for smaller blades, which is a solid option for achieving razor-sharp edges. While they don’t compete with high-end diamond stones, the electroplated diamond abrasives perform well for the price. When used and maintained according to the manufacturer’s instructions, they should provide reliable service over time. I bought an aftermarket protective case as well where it keeps my tool organized and protected. Read more
