Bought to see where heat was coming into my apartment. Turns out where the furnace is, there's a large hole in the wall. I sealed it up, and it was much better. I also could test my AC unit and see what temp was coming out of it and what parts of my apartment needed better circulation to move that cold air around. I could see where this would also be good for FISH FRIES when you want to know the heat of the oil or maybe temperature of lead when you are SMELTING (all things I have done in the past and wish I had this for now). For the price this is a great tool (just like a stud finder) that makes life easier. Pick one up!!! Read more
I purchased this thermometer for use in my reptile breeding room. I have never used it to sense any temperatures above 110 F or below 75 F, and cannot verify any amount of accuracy for temperatures outside that range. However, it has proven accurate within 2 degrees. All readings from the Heat Seeker were taken at a distance of 12 inches from the target, measured with a measuring tape before reading the temperature. I tested the accuracy of this thermometer using sensing equipment from my chemistry lab on campus. The lab sensor was placed in my reptile breeding rack, directly against the bottom of the bins I tested. In most cases the Heat Seeker read the temperature within 1.6 degrees of the lab sensor's reading. When measuring the highest temperature, obtained by removing all substrate and liners from my breeding bins and turning the heat source up to double the normal output, the Heat Seeker read 108.1 and the lab sensor read 110.21 F. Based on that, I would say this little thermometer is certainly accurate for the uses I intended. It seems durable enough, though it does feel hollow and light. I would hesitate to test the durability by throwing it at the wall, but when dropped on my carpeted floor no negative effects were observed. As far as retaining accuracy over time, I cannot verify much. I have been using this thermometer for a couple months now, and it still reads with the same degree of accuracy it did when I first bought it. I cannot say whether it will continue to read as accurately a year or three down the road, but for now it's still doing fine. Basically, I find this thermometer to be sufficient for the uses I intend for it. If you need very precise measurements a different thermometer may prove superior, but for basic usage and specifically for gauging temperatures in reptile breeding racks, this thermometer is certainly adequate. Considering the cost and the degree of accuracy, I am satisfied with my purchase. Read more
If you have a flat top grill you need one of these to figure out your hotspots. Fun fact the laser on it will also trip a laser pistol target. Read more
Bought this as a way to check temps in AC repairs, where temps relates to gas pressures. Haven't used it for that yet, but did quite a bit of general testing, on surfaces with known temperatures verified with other instruments known to be accurate. This "mini Infrared Thermometer" is consistently 3 degrees over actual temps. I see on the back of the package that the accuracy is +/- 3.6 degree- wish I had known that in advance, it's a pretty sloppy range. However, it seem to be consistent in the degree of inaccuracy. If you can live with that, it's quite handy in size. Read more
Our son has been in the remote control car racing (and car bashing) hobby for a few years now, and he has learned a lot about the impact of proper gearing for runs on all different types of surfaces. When gearing up for speed runs on asphalt, it is easy to overgear which creates a lot of heat... too much without a proper cool-down period and you toast the motor (and sometime the battery and electronic speed control too). He's talked about getting a heat gun for years, and I saw this unit here with its good reviews and good price so we got it for him as a birthday gift. It really has made him happy and saved him a few bucks along the way too. Not a single motor toasted by overheating since this infrared thermometer was added to his tool box. Easy to use -- he just shoots the car motor and get an instant reading, letting him know if it need a cool down break or not. The readout is large and very easy to read. The auto-shutoff is a good feature especially for our son, since he could never remember to turn anything off as a kid (lights, TV, stereo... whatever) and I doubt much has changed since. Affordable, comfortable to hold, easy to aim, and easy to read... what more could be asked for? Highly recommended as a gift or for your own toolbox. It is kind fun just to play with... Read more
I had high hopes for this product. I ended up buying something else and forgetting to return this in time. The instructions are puzzling. I got it to turn on. I questioned my results testing it in the house. It started not reading or reading and displaying obviously incorrect readings, verified with an infra red kitchen temp gun style thermo. Took it to the lake to use the next day to measure surface temps and it would not power up. Changed batteries when I got home, still no dice... then forgot about it. Read more
It is accurate, fast, fun, practical, and inexpensive. I monitor my air conditioner by accurately measuring the temperature difference out of the ceiling vent versus the temperature of the air going in at the air return. I've been able to head off problems before the normal homeowner even knows they have one. Measure the temperature of your refrigerator to be sure it's at or below the USDA recommended 38 degrees to minimize spoiling. This tool has a thousand homes uses. And it didn't cost a fortune. Anyone in the trades has to have one but at the Amazon price this is a tool for every homeowner. I haven't abused it so I don't know how it will stand up to dropping or kicking, but I can say I have't changed the battery in over 6 months of use. Read more
