I LOVE it. Although it was expensive it's worth every penny. Very sturdy, it's not the lightest weight but I'm willing to carry a few more oz for the strength of this tripod. The ballhead was a little stiff but now that I've used it a few times it's easier to move around. Read more
This really is an incredible tripod so if you're reading this you probably already know what it's about and whether it's worth the money and I'd say yes it it. The head is really amazing. It locks down with just the slightest of a turn on the tension knob. The legs loosen with only a slight turn of the leg locks. The whole thing is just a smooth operating piece of kit. The legs do have one small design flaw. There is a thing called a hose clamp on the Gitzo parts page. It sits on the bottom end of the two lower leg sections and guides along a groove inside the leg. It acts as a stop on the let sliding out and twisting but it's the flimsiest thing ever. Just two small pieces of plastic held togeher by a thread of plastic. Just not worthy of this beast of a tripod. I made the mistake of untwisting one leg lock too much (again, very slight twist opens and closes these) and the section of leg fell out with this piece on the end. It fell off and in the process of putting it all back together the little thing pieces broke. It works fine as two pieces but..... So I'd say definitely get this bad boy if you want a monster tripod. It's not the lightest carbon fiber tripod out there but it's not heavy either. Just get a spare set of hose clamps for the inside of the legs while you're at it cause you might need them. Read more

I would rate this 4.5 but can't. I mounted my camera with a 500mm telephoto lens and the tripod and it held sure and steady like the earth. The tripod legs are as you would expect from Gitzo; strong, sturdy and easy to extend and retract. The ball head is one of the best one that I have ever used. It is has fluid motion and the tension dial is easy to adjust and fine tune. My only reason for the four star review is that I wish that the ball head were a quick release. That being said I look forward to using it some more. Read more
