I'm secretly a cheese grater snob. (Who knew it.) I bought this particular one years and years ago. When I was helping a divorced friend establish his own household, I picked up what I thought was a similar one that would be good enough. Fail. It sucked! Recently spotted this grater again, and I bought one for my daughter as she was moving out. The reason this grater is my favorite is because of this: I HATE box graters. (HATE them.) They're cutesy as a concept, but not very helpful when you're grating large amounts of cheese. I use a microplane for garlic and hard cheeses, but as a cheddar cheese lover, I grate cheese multiple times a week and need something that works better than some single side of a multipurpose grater. This grater is flat for a reason, it makes quick work of getting a 1-pound block done. But, the real joy of this grater is the size of the holes, and the spacing of the holes. They are perfect. Each swipe of a cheese block is smooth and produces beautiful lengths of grated cheese. I have tile countertops, and I park the bottom edge of the grater on a grout line, and bam I'm done. Again, I've had this particular grater for about a decade, and it is still sharp, hasn't rusted, is easy to clean manually, and comes out spotless from the dishwasher. Very inexpensive, useful tool! Nice quality, medium shred grater. Love that it is flat, so it stores easily in my kitchen drawer. I use it the most of all the graters I have. Like the sharpness. Seems strong enough to handle pressure while grating. I hand wash it and never put it in the dishwasher to avoid rust. Happy with this! Read more

This grater is SO EASY to hand-wash when you only need to grate cheese. I bought it because I also have a box-grater and found it redundant to wash all four sides when most of the time, you only use one side for whatever you’re preparing.
