I love that this heat gun has two operable settings for low and high heat but also a dial that kicks it up or down for both settings. I needed a heat gun that could bend PVC pipe for a project I'm working on. I have been using the second setting at medium range on the dial and it's still putting out a good amount of heat. I'm happy to know it can dish out more if I need it to. The low setting can get as cool (or cooler) than a hair dryer if you want it to so it is very versatile. The gun itself is made very well and doesn't feel cheap, it handles nicely too. When I first plugged it up and was playing around with the settings I let it warm up slowly before kicking it into high gear, cause after waiting desperately for this thing to get here I didn't want to burn it out. Not saying it would but I've read a ton of reviews on cheaper heat guns on Amazon and the number one problem is they either don't get hot enough or they burn out. I've only been using it for 3 days so far and I'm happy it's going well. Of course there is a new but very faint plastic smell when you first turn it on, no different than when you buy a new hairdryer and use it the first time- nothing serious or hazardous. The range on this thing and flow can be altered by the given other 3 metal attachments that came with it. It also came with a bag of different sized heat shrink tubes, some plastic shrink film? and a paint scraper of great quality! I really like the handle on that thing. I'm always worried I'm going to get a bad device but this is not that. This thing is powerful and I liver how ready it is to lower the heat settings with one hand while I'm using it. And I like that it sits on it's back end so when it's hot you don't have to lie or on its side and worry about that. Off course you could knock it over so still be aware of it's surroundings but still. I love using it to warm up my wood stove! When it's really cold out, you have to make sure you get major flasher going to punch thru the cold wall or your home will fill with smoke.... I used to use my space heater but this works so much faster! I plugged it in, point it up to the roof inside the stove and heat that cold air up there for a few mins. It's so freaking hot if you want it to be! I light the paper (with a match but prob could with this heat gun lol) and not a particle of smoke came into my living room!!!!
