This is a nice niche overall, but it does have a few imperfections. Be especially mindful of your measurements-particularly the depth-before ordering. The total depth is 4 inches, including the front lip. However, the required depth behind the wall is 3.75 inches. Most walls that this would fit into are framed with 2x4s, where the "4" actually measures about 3.5 inches. That means you'll need something to fill the extra 0.25 inches, or the niche will protrude slightly from the wall. In most cases, 0.5-inch drywall or cement board will compensate for this, so you should be fine. But any deviation could affect the fit. If you include the thickness of tile then there is no issue. For shower installation, the instructions specify that the surrounding mounting area should be waterproofed using a membrane-standard practice, but worth noting. They also recommend mounting the niche with silicone adhesive (likely caulk). In terms of quality, the unit is advertised as 304 stainless steel. I measured the thickness at 0.8 mm-fairly thin, but it still feels solid. The black powder coating appears to be missing in very small areas, especially around the corners (visible in my attached photos). I’m not sure if this will affect durability or if I’m just being overly critical. The center shelf is functional but appears slightly warped. I ordered this Shower Niche to insert as a recessed shelf in a wall in my bathroom. I am going to hide it behind a wall hanging and store toilet paper and toiletries inside. I don't intend to put this in a shower. However, I love the matte black finish and the sleek modern look of the shelf. Therefore, I believe it will be great for my purposes. The shelf seems very strong and solid. All the edges and seams are very smooth with the exception of one spot under the slots in the center shelf. There is one spot that is a little sharp, but it is underneath the center shelf so I am not worried about it. I do wish the lip around the entire frame of the shelf was a little bigger. It is about 1/4". If it were a little larger that would give me a little more room to play with regarding installing this and having this lip coverup the edge of the sheetrock. However, I will simply need to be precise when cutting the hole. Overall it is a really nice shelf that is going to work great recessed between the studs in my wall. Far as I can tell this is the real deal. It's just as nice as one you'd pay much more for if you were to go to Lowe's or home depot , ect. I was surprised by the quality of this niche, its well built, solid, doesn't bend or distort like a thin cheap product would. It's got a beautiful sheen to it, I originally planned to paint it but after seeing it I decided to keep it how it is. It came wrapped heavily and nicely protected from damage. Came with some waterproofing material for the in shower wall, however I bought this intending to use it in my bedroom, I had no practical place for a table so this worked perfectly. No assembly required, all you need to do is cut some drywall,tile, wall material, and mount and seal this in place. Read more
