I ordered 4 of these and one had a tick and wouldn't detect in Disk Management. Sent it back and received this one... It's been in a JBOD for about 2 months, working fine. Only had 3200 hrs on it when purchased. Read more
Been using the drive for about a month, and no issues. Came securely packed and even included the adapter to disable PWDIS. Working as advertised and saved more than $100. Read more
Solid Enterprise Drive but Heavy-Duty for Home Users This HGST Ultrastar DC HC520 renewed 12TB hard drive feels like the kind of storage you’d expect in a data center, not just a home setup. It’s enterprise-grade, with a 7200 RPM spin speed, 256MB cache, and SATA 6.0Gb/s interface—plenty fast and stable for handling large files or running a NAS. In my use, it’s been reliable and surprisingly quiet for a drive this size. Performance has been consistent with no hiccups during large file transfers. That said, this is a heavy-duty drive and not necessarily designed for casual plug-and-play desktop use. It runs warmer than consumer drives, and you’ll want good airflow and a sturdy setup, especially if installing multiple in a RAID or NAS chassis. Also, since it’s “renewed,” there’s a bit of uncertainty compared to brand new drives—mine looks clean and has worked fine, but longevity is something I’ll only know with time. Bottom line: A solid pick if you’re building out serious storage at home or work, but keep in mind it’s a professional-grade drive that expects good cooling and a reliable setup to perform its best. I purchased this hard drive to store 12 TB of data for back up. It isn’t something that I would buy to use as a daily hard drive due to the fact that it has already been used for 3 to 5 years. It was made in August 2018, and I purchased it in January 2023. every hard drive has different sound characteristics and this one is not quiet. But so far I have filled it with over 10 TB of information and it is operating within normal parameters. I have also noticed plenty of 4 and 6 TB hard drives used and sold in a similar fashion for approximately $40-$50. So this pricing is right on par I was wondering if there servers can tell if a hard drive is getting old and that is when they decide to sell them like this. But I don’t have any information regarding testing and daily checks of large servers hard drives. Do you? Read more

I ordered this 12TB DC HC520 hard drive in order to clone a smaller 8TB capacity drive to it. Come to find out that this 12TB drive is formatted with 4096 bytes sector size and not the traditional 512 bytes sector size. This effectively gives me an error when trying to clone it. They do not mention sector size in the hard drive description, so beware if you want to use this drive for cloning drives that have a 512 sector size Read more

Drive works well. The capacity of 12TB is accurate. I've had 2 of them installed for 6 months now without issue. They run quite in an 10 bay HDD enclosure. I was disappointed to see all of the drives attributes including powered on hours had been wiped clear. There's no way to know the real condition of the drives I received. I ended up using them for triple copy backups only because of that. I still feel like I got my money's worth out of them. I will definitely update if one of them fail. Read more
