I had an Imusa rice cooker for about 10 years and loved it. It was simple and efficient, and just did exactly what it was supposed to. But it finally died. When I initially searched for a new one on Amazon, an Imusa product did not appear among the highly-rated rice cookers, so I figured, alas, it must no longer be made. So I bought a Zojirushi rice cooker instead. But, wow, that was a mistake. First, my wife scraped her finger on the edge of the removable cooking bowl. This bowl has a pretty rough edge that you grab to take it in and out of the cooker. Our old Imusa had an edge that was nicely wrapped underneath so no rough anything to scrape you. Then, when cooking, the Zojirushi spits water out through its steam vent all over the damn place. It's ridiculous. Our Imusa never ever did that; the only thing that came out was, well, steam! Just like it was supposed to. Some Zojirushi reviewers mention this spitting issue, but say it's no problem because they just put a kitchen towel over the hole. Okay... did that, and ended with a hot, wet, starchy kitchen towel to wash. So, lo and behold, I specifically looked up Imusa on Amazon, and there it was! They still make 'em and the 5-cup cooker was all of $18.99, compared to the crummy Zojirushi 6-cup, which cost $59.99... 3 TIMES AS MUCH. So I decided to risk another 20 bucks, and, sure enough, the Imusa came and works just like my old one. It's great. No starchy steamy spittle spewing out the blow hole, no having to protect your kitchen with a towel, and the same very smart wrapped-around edge to the cooking bowl. I'm giving my Zojirushi to the Goodwill, and expect my new Imusa to last and function just great for another 10 years, at least. It's a simple, smart, effective product that I highly recommend! I've read some of these rev that say the lid cracks. Silly people. It cracks because you tightened the top handle too tight. It need to be a little loose to expand when the steam hits it. I love my rice maker. I use it all the time and as long as you set a timer and unplug it at that time you get perfect rice every time. When the switch flips to warm from cook you have to be careful. If left for more than a few minutes after it will go from browning the bottom of the rice to burning fairly quickly. I personally like the crispy bottom, but if cooking for guests I know to unplug and take the pot out of the heating compartment as soon as it clicks to warm. I timed it the first time I used it so now I just set the timer when I hit start and get perfect rice every time Read more

This electric rice cooker is a decent appliance for basic cooking needs, but it has some limitations that prevent it from being great. On the positive side, it’s easy to use and cooks rice fairly well. The "keep warm" function works as expected, and the non-stick inner pot makes cleaning relatively hassle-free. Read more

Some reviews mention this little cooker will boil over... I make 3 cup batches and it's never boiled over. We are a house of two adults and I opted for the 5 cup cooker. Making the 3 cup batch gives us enough rice to have one round of leftovers the next day. This rice cooker is big enough for two but if I have guests visiting then I know it can also accommodate enough rice for everyone in one cooking session. Super easy to clean and the size does not take up a lot of space in my cabinet. Very pleased and very affordable. The cooking switch will automatically flip to warm and you will want to immediately unplug the unit from the wall to stop or the warm setting will continue to slowly cook it. That doesn't bother me because I start my rice first and then prep/cook the dinner and by the time I'm finished with cooking, the rice is finished cooking. You could also set a timer on your phone, I've done that before too. Read more
