Just what I’ve always secretly wanted and didn’t know existed—a kazoo for adults! This HYWEMIU Kazoo for Adults is made of very sturdy plastic with a permanent membrane. No more cutting pieces of wax paper to size and replacing them every other day! Permanent membranes are often favored because they do not need to be replaced and offer a stronger, crisper sound than replaceable wax paper membranes. I would expect plastic to be poorer quality than metal and to not sound as good. But this has quite a strong, decisive tone—and plays in tune as long as you hum in tune! (In fact, I listened to a video of someone playing the most expensive professional kazoo Amazon sells—the brass $115 one with the hard case!—and it sounded no better than this one. I was shocked!) The kazoo comes with a lanyard, so that you can hang it around your neck. Very convenient! Now you can join your kids or surprise your neighbors with your kazoo repertoire! Kazoos for adults can be had for anywhere from $4 to $115 (professional brass kazoo with case). There seems to be no correlation between material and price. The cheapest $4 one is metal. Many of the more expensive ones are plastic. Most cost around $8 to $13. This kazoo seems to come in several different colors, sold by different companies. All but this one cost $10. At the list price of $12.99, this kazoo is priced at the top of the normal range. For a buck more, you can get Amazon’s Overall Pick, with five membranes and a carrying pouch. This kazoo is good quality in spite of being plastic, but it is overpriced for what it is. This is a sturdy kazoo with a good tone, in spite of being plastic. You can get the same one in other colors for $3 less. So unless you simply thrill to this particular yellow, blue, and red color combination, you might want to buy one of those instead. This is a great kazoo! It's very solidly built with thick plastic. And it has a permanent, washable membrane which is awesome. Makes nice sound- it's quite loud! With just a little effort it turns your hums into an impressive vibrating "kazooey" sound. The design is very bright and kind of clownish, but...it's a kazoo! Comes with a convenient lanyard to carry hands free, or to just hang it somewhere while not in use. Over the years I have purchased metal kazoos for the family and they are always a big hit. But, the kids always end up breaking theirs and then later on one will "borrow" mine and it'll be a goner, too. Not anymore! This is now Mom's adult only kazoo--hands off :) I think I'm going to get another one for the kid's musical instrument box because everyone loves to "play" a kazoo. This is my first time using a higher quality kazoo, I've only ever used party favor-type kazoos and thought that that was all there was. The party favor kazoos always drove me crazy because I felt like I was the one making all of the noise and the kazoo did little to nothing. Well, not THIS kazoo!!! It is amazing! With just a little vocalization, this kazoo has me loudly kazoo-ing!! It's got a great, fun sound to it! It can actually be heard when played with other instruments because it projects the sound so well! The actual quality of the kazoo is also excellent. It's made of strong, solid ABS plastic that has no flaws that I can find. It's easy to clean and looks great! I also appreciated the instructions and actually read every word of them once I realized that this is a legit kazoo. It gives great advice and also provides care instructions in easy to read English. The media could not be loaded. Thought this would be a fun addition to our instrument collection. Totally basic but with a pretty good dynamic range. We are sampling it and playing around with it in our music recording app. It is of good basic quality and is very affordable. Easy to rinse out. Thick ABS plastic that has no taste or odor. Read more
Having had exposure just to the little pressed-tin style kazoos, I wasn't expecting what I got at all. This ain't no tenpenny noisemaker; it's a nicely robust feeling kazoo that puts out a heckuva honk. The mouthpiece has a great shape to it, and the bell shape at the other end of the kazoo projects a decisive, and decisively audibe, sound. How loud is it? I was blatting away with it outside when I looked up and saw several dozen geese flying around over my head, all honking along in time. Pro tip: Do not play this kazoo outside until geese gather, unless you also have an umbrella to fend off their "criticism". Okay, the preceding paragraph isn't true, but the rest of this review is. Gaudy, cartoony, toy-looking as this kazoo is, it punches well above its weight for sound. And if you have a mean streak, buy a handful to give to other people's kids. Read more
I don't know if "professional" kazoos are a thing, but this is probably about as close as it gets, despite looking like it was designed by a committee of cartoon clowns. When have you ever seen a kazoo with a 3-page instruction booklet? It's bigger than any run-of-the-mill novelty kazoo, especially the "bell" end, which serves to make it quite loud. I can't say whether the tone is significantly different from other kazoos, but it seems easier to play. A six-year-old has no problem picking it up right away and playing anything she could think of. As for the quality, it's lightweight plastic, but it's hard and feels sturdy. I imagine it's durable, though you're probably not hammering roof shingles with a kazoo. The included lanyard is a nice touch. If you're looking for a cheap, fun instrument that's easily playable and won't break or get lost right away, this is miles ahead of the dollar store kazoos.
