Picked up the knives for the wife's temple kitchen. I regularly come with her to see friends we have made in the congregation. Since the knives had been neglected for a long time and a spathe of knife injuries happened - a dull knife is a dangerous knife - I chose to help out by sharpening their knives & cleavers every 2-3 months. In the couple of hours there I can only sharpen maybe 4-6 knives well, and try to touch up the ones I've done previously. What I have found doing the sharpening, is that some of those knives needed to go, so I grabbed this set to replace & supplement some or what I took out of service. For the temple, the knife block itself is unnecessary, so it was actually tossed, and we don't use those low end knife sharpeners, that too was tossed. I will say, the knife block was nice, we made, obviously the set fit it, I just don't like to take up counter space, which I always feel is in short supply. The sharpener, too, is not bad for those of you who will rarely attempt to sharpen your knives when you want to get a short lived edge. however those things are too aggressive, remove too much material to give you a cutting edge that simply will not last, especially in a commercial kitchen setting. It was nice that the sharpener did magnetically nest into the knife block. So for those of you who want a decent set of knives with a countertop holder, and a sharpener to use occasional that isn't really meant to maintain your knives, but will spot sharpen, this set isn't a bad choice. Also, we didn't take all the knives to the temp[le, they only serve vegetarian meals, so steak knifes are pointless there. Also, the short serrated knife isn't something they would use, so we kept the 4 steak knives, the 6" serrated & the kitchen shears (they have enough of those, and ours is more than 10 yrs old, due to be replaced. If you catch it discounted I think this set is a pretty good value, but at full price, I would pass. Read more

A new knife set was needed, and when I saw this 12-piece set of carbon steel, with a lovely block and sharpener, at a great price, I ordered. This is a wonderful set of knives. I am an old grandma who has been cooking forever, have used most tools and knives available, and know a good set when I use it. This is excellent. The knives are high quality carbon steel, no rusting, and the styles included ensure the proper knife can be used for the task. My all-time favorite is the chef's knife, but different circumstances require different knives; this set has them all, including a set of four steakknives; maybe I can get hubby to use them instead of the old, dull paring knife he seems to love! The block is lovely, and everything has its place; this makes selection quick and easy. I really appreciate the sharpener, which is available immediately, being attachable to the block magnetically; I use a sharpener frequently, and having one literally at my fingertips is a time saver and a big bonus. It is easy to use, and matches the block. The knives are incredibly sharp. The handles are very comfortable to hold and work with, and easy to hold steady--no slipping. They are easy to keep clean. The block and set looks fabulous on my countertop, which is also a bonus. But the sharpness and durability are the major points I look for, and this set exceeds my expectations. I feel like I found a real bargain. I am delighted with this set, and Hubby is too. We recommend it without hesitation. Read more
