Gotta pay more to get the scissors sharpener.

Stone WatersJanuary 30, 2026

Good little sharpener for the price. I would give it 5 stars, but it doesn't sharpen scissors. If you want the scissors sharpener included, you gotta buy the one that's over two dollars more. Read more

It's not horrible

Jim from FloridaJanuary 15, 2026

The knife sharpening part works pretty well. It's a 3 stage. The handle isn't the most comfortable and it's extremely difficult to keep on the counter top because the bottom is just hard plastic. There's no rubber feet or rubber pad or anything to keep it from sliding around on the counter so it's not really that safe. There's no weight to it so that makes it difficult too. It does indeed sharpen pretty well and I use it in the garage but I don't trust it in the kitchen. Read more

Basic Drag Through Knife Sharpener, One Carbide, Two Ceramic Slots

Thoughtful ConsumerNovember 23, 2025

This is a very basic, budget quality, drag through knife (and supposedly scissor) sharpener. This comes with a decent length grip handle, and three drag through slots. One is a V-shaped carbide slot, and two ceramic slots. Having three drag slots isn't too bad, since the ceramic ones are the most useful (and least damaging to your knives). The carbide slot shouldn't really be used, since that is going to be the most aggressive, and will take off the most metal. Plus, given it's carbide, it's basically going to shave off bent or dull end/tip till it's sharp (aka, it'll eat up your blade). While it will get your knife sharp, it's just the more damaging. The ceramics slots will sharpen your knife, with being less aggressive in taking off metal. While it will take off metal, it will be a very very fine bits. The two things that aren't so great are 1) the price. It's somewhat priced fairly I think for a three slot design, but for $10, it's at the higher end of what it's worth. and 2) it's much more lightweight than I would've thought. The handle is basically hollow plastic, so this is a very very light weight product. It would've been better if the handle was weighted a bit to give it some more stability. Last bit of advice... given this doesn't have a knife guard or shield, please drag your knife somewhat slowly and carefully. Dragging your knife or blade quickly will not make it any more sharp this this kind of system, and can be somewhat dangerous if you aren't wearing a cut resistant or chain mail glove. OK, I lied, one more piece of advice, drag it only one way, towards you. When you want to drag it through the same slot again, raise your knife or blade, and slowly drag it towards you. Crating a sawing motion isn't advised (and prob eat up your blades quicker). Read more

The whole time, this is all I needed?!?!

NGLNovember 24, 2025

I was a huge fan of ceramic knives because I had never cleanly and thinly cut a tomato until I bought one. But, this whole time, all I needed was a cheap knife sharpener? Other types of sharpeners are intimidating because you need to know what you’re doing and hold the blade at a specific angle- so that counts me out. This one is pretty much fool proof once you know the slot order. As for the design, I love that it is reversible depending on which hand you prefer to hold the blade vs the sharpener. I did refer to the diagram on the package for this. The slots keep the blade at the correct angle. It has a coarse, a fine, and a scissor slot. It does feel lightweight, which is great, but it the plastic feels cheap (-.5 star if I could). But at that price, if it lasts a few months you get your money’s worth. It easily fits in my utensil drawer so it’s easily accessible. Mangled tomatoes or kiwi, no more! I did a test it and cut a very ripe tomato with one of my 8+ year old never sharpened knives straight from the wooden knife block, and it barely dented the tomato. It did not break the skin. Shocker. Then, I pulled the blade through the coarse slot 3 times, and then the fine slot (middle) 2 times and tried again. It cut like butter- with light pressure and all the way through. I wish I recorded it. It was like one of those cheesy infomercials. Anyway, I planned to gift my co-workers each a set of ceramic knives because I thought they were the absolute best, but now I need a new plan. I highly recommend this for inexpensive, fool-proof blade sharpening. Read more

Lacks Clear Instructions

ErickNovember 25, 2025

The YD‑168 sharpener is a hollow‑plastic device that comes in two variants; the model I have features three slots for knives and scissors. Its lightweight construction makes it easy to handle, but the absence of instructions leaves you guessing how to use it properly. Based on my experience, you likely start with the coarse groove and progress through to the fine one, though the guide doesn’t confirm this sequence. I haven’t tested the scissors sharpening yet, so I can’t speak to that function. Overall, the sharpener's lack of clear guidance may frustrate users who want a hassle‑free sharpening experience.
