I like to travel without checked baggage, and I'm currently planning a 16-day trip to China. I bought this umbrella after searching the net for the lightest, quality umbrellas available. This one weighs in at just a hair over 4 oz. I will use it for sun as well as rain, abroad and at home. I have only used it once, so far. Yesterday was rainy, but the radar made it look as if there was a window in the precipitation that would make it possible to get a walk in. Still, it was pretty gloomy, so I popped my Knirps 050 in my pocket, just in case. Good thing I did. About a mile from the car, the sprinkles became a downpour that lasted pretty much all the way back. Keep in mind that this is a small umbrella, but it has to be if weight is the primary reason for buying it. I can confirm that it is practically weightless, whether it's in a pocket or in use. You could carry this thing all day without any fatigue at all. It is perfectly adequate for protection in light rain. That said, you're gonna get wet if there's a storm or heavy rain. It just doesn't have the coverage to keep you totally dry. Nevertheless, I stayed dry enough to keep my electronics safe, and I never expected any more of this little umbrella. So why did I give it five stars despite getting damp in a pouring rainstorm? Because that's not what it's made for. It's a finely crafted umbrella, with excellent opening, closing, and folding functions, and it's perfect for the purposes I plan to put it to. Even if you're not a traveler, this umbrella is small enough to throw in a small purse or a pocket anytime you're out in questionable weather, and it will keep you dry in light rain. It will also be invaluable as a sunshade. I expect to get a lot of use out of this little gem, both here at home and on my travels. Read more

If I could give this product 10 stars, I would. I looked long and hard for a VERY small and VERY lightweight umbrella to take on a trip to Europe. I returned several products before stumbling on this one. It was everything I was looking for: so small and lightweight it could slip into a purse or pocket but sturdy enough to stand up to a sudden London downpour. No bells and whistles, but does exactly what it's supposed to. And, imagine my surprise when I came across this product in the Red Dot design museum in Essen, Germany, where it was featured for winning a product design award! Well deserved. Read more

Really lightweight and easy to pack. I originally bought one on a Swiss Air flight, promptly lost it in Zurich. I thought I could only find it in Switzerland and was very glad to find it on Amazon! Now its a permanent part of my road warrior backpack for my weekly travels! Read more

This umbrella is small and packable and very light which makes it perfect for travel. As a travel umbrella, you trade light weight and smallness for a larger, more sturdy umbrella, which would be more heavy and bulky and less packable. So get it, pack it when you travel, and it should be adequate for one person in the rain - as long as it is not a gully-washer with high winds. Read more

Love this little umbrella. It’s very sturdy, and opens and closes easily. The cover goes on easily. Great to carry in handbag. It seems like a much larger umbrella when open, and dries quickly!! Read more

For $40, I expected this umbrella to be more wind resistant. With barely a light breeze, it would flip inside out. Luckily it wasn’t raining. Definitely I would not pull it out in winds at 60mph. The description is not accurate. Not recommended. Read more

I bought this for traveling to a destination where rain was possible, but not probable. I carried it around for two full days and only got it out twice. Unlike when I carry a regular umbrella, with this one I didn't mind carrying it for very little use, because it is so small and incredibly light weight. Didn't even notice it was in my sling. Haven't used it in wind or heavy rain, so I cannot comment on that. Read more
