UPDATE (10/9/24): The upper "arms" sheared right off today (see photo). Since I got it, I've been pushing on one of these or the other to remove the phone with one hand, and apparently that isn't a thing that they can handle long term. I won't be buying another one; it's just too bulky. I've dropped it to a 3-star for requiring two hands to remove the phone, lest the mount break. ORIGINAL: I bought this as an upgrade to the Roam ones - the underside piece of those kept breaking and I was tired of complaining to them about it to get a free replacement (they have a good warranty, or did when I purchased them at least). Context: I'm a daily half-hour-each-way urban bike commuter with a non-electric hybrid/mountain bike, and I occasionally take it out onto the trail as well. So it's definitely bumpy. The bike has straight handlebars, and with my front light and "horn", there's not a huge amount of space for other stuff. This one is a substantial upgrade to the Roam in all respects. Even without the locking mechanism, your phone won't come out readily (I've biked plenty after forgetting that without issue), and with the locking switch, I think you'd have to physically break the mount to get the phone out. Haven't had the opportunity to see how easy the lock switch would toggle in the event of an accident (thankfully), but I can completely believe the other review in which the guy on the motorcycle got into an accident and his phone was still secure. They also brilliantly ship it with three (four?) strips of rubber that allow for many different size handlebars or other positions. I only needed two, so my partner used one for her front light that was a little too loose. Worked great. That said, there are three big downsides to this that wouldn't make me purchase it again, if I ever need to, or recommend it fully. 1. The sheer size. It's just a big honking thing. Like, it's not subtle. I thought that wouldn't be an issue, but it's beefy. It can be tricky to find a good place for it. The corners in particular are huge, and it holds my relatively tiny Pixel3 like The Mountain from Game of Thrones holding a child's hand. 2. No adjustments. Because it's so big, I wanted to shift the phone-holding part up or down from the physical mounting located. Lacking adjustments makes the placed to put it more limited. 3. No fingerprint access. At least, from the back. The Roam was nice because I could finagle my finger into the fingerprint reader on the backside without an issue. This one has a solid back. Makes it more rigid, for sure, but also less user-friendly. It's not hard to remove the phone from the holder, but that's not really a great solution, and I hate punching in the keypad while I'm riding. I like it fine, but it's definitely overkill for me. I wouldn't purchase it again. But if you're on a motorcycle or do a lot of heavy trail riding, might be worth it. Read more
