Programming the four daily pill times seemed daunting at first, but anyone who’s successfully set the time on digital watches will quickly figure it out. The instruction booklet that comes with the pill dispenser is pretty good. The dispenser itself spins clockwise, so individual pill disbursement times are set up counterclockwise, with the earlier pill disbursement showing under the dispenser compartment door on initial setup. I found setting up the pill dispenser tray to be easier after I removed it to my countertop. Leaving the 4x per day ring in place made it unlikely that a mistake could be made. Six daily dispersal rings come with the automatic pill dispenser, 1x through 6x, each accommodating a different daily pill dispensing time frame. The tray is replaced in the automatic dispenser indexed with the previous scheduled pill dispensing compartment under the dispensing door. The pill dispenser came with 4 AA batteries, which are easily inserted into the unit’s bottom battery box after sliding the compartment’s locking tab away from the battery box cover. While this may not seem worth mentioning, a company’s decision to include batteries with its product saves me from having to run to a drugstore or hunt around the house for fresh batteries, thus making it possible to immediately employ my new pill organizer. We ended up not using the pill dispenser as intended. My wife expressed a preference for her ad hoc pill dispensing system. I took it over for my 2x per day pill regimen; it helped me avoid the occasions when I’m busy and forget to take my pills. Resetting the dispenser’s dispensing frequency and timing straightforwardly based on the instruction booklet, and having set it up for the 4x frequency before. We didn’t find the alarm useful as we couldn’t hear it. The dispenser is in the master bath at one end of the house, while our daily activities take place at the other end. I have set up timely reminders on the Alexa devices in the house that serve the same purpose better. While I found it clumsy to lift and invert the pill dispenser each time I needed to take my pills, doing so resets the alarm. Also, I can’t think of a better way to disperse the pills. This would be a 5 star, but the set up and refilling could be easier. I fill this every other week for my mother and it is hard to lock and unlock and the numbers are difficult to differentiate. Different colors for the numbers would help. It is durable and taking the pills out is easy. However, it has made it easier for my mom to take her pills at the right time and when she occasionally doesn’t remember if she took her pills, we just have to look at the dispenser. So, it is worth it for the peace of mind it has given us! Read more
I ordered this product to help my elderly parents keep track of daily meds, and the concept of this medication organizer seemed great. However, after going through the initial setup of the alarms, putting in medications, lining up the correct dosage ring, etc. myself, I'm not sure this will work well for them. I could see it being a decent organizer if a caretaker were to set this up every month, but I don't think this is user friendly enough for them to manage on their own. The key that's required to open the dispenser and add meds and also close/lock the lid again is very small and even I had some trouble getting it to work right. The alarms were also frustrating to set up, and I didn't find it intuitive at all to change the time to 11PM and then hit a button again in order to remove an alarm. Setting multiple alarms was pretty tedious and I had to re-do it a couple of times to get it right. That said, this pill dispenser does seem to be made well, durable, and the design does keep medications safe and secured. For the price, however, I think there are better options out there that would be more user friendly than this one. Read more
I am trying this pill dispenser with my stepmother who has been diagnosed with dementia and has been missing taking some of her pills on a regular basis. This unit is easy to use and set and it is nice that I can set her pills up for twice daily for 2 weeks at a time. The alarm beeps and is loud enough for her to notice to take her medication. One hint we discovered since you slide open the window and tip the whole unit to get the pills out of the exposed section that rotates into the available area in order to register that the pills have been removed is that at least for her it was to heavy and difficult to do with one hand so we now have her tip it into a plastic bowl or tray so pills don’t accidentally spill on the floor *tip*. If she doesn’t get her pills within a certain period of time (30 minutes?) the pills rotate and the dispenser marks the dose as missed and I recognize it next time I fill the unit. The unit holds a good number of pills and vitamins in each section. I currently am putting 1 multivitamin, 2 fish oil capsules, 1 additional capsule, 8 large tablets, 2 small tablets and everything fits. The unit comes with 2 keys to lock the unit which are easy to use and different rings to set the unit up based on how often a day you need to take medication. I then set the clock and then set the times that the alarm should trigger the medication should be dispensed. The more often a day you need to take meds, obviously the more often you need to fill the machine. This version of the pill dispenser does not have an app to monitor the unit but is much less expensive than those more expensive units, so if you have a loved one who is relatively compliant with taking their medication once they understand how to do so and it is visible and has auditory reminders like this, you may not need that extra level of monitoring as it has been quite successful for us. 5 stars Read more
