This is exactly what I ordered and seems sturdy and that it will work well. It has everything needed to set it over a fire and get cooking, plus a nice carrying case. I had to figure out how to get the rubber stoppers off the screw heads because they required pliers to remove, but that was no problem. The bottoms will need to be kept up (cleaned and oiled) as they have no bases will sink into into the ground a bit- also not a big problem. Excited to get out there and use it. Read more

Very well made! Really needs instructions! I could not figure out how to get the three legs to keep the hook centered. Maybe it's a design flaw. Maybe it's not supposed to center at all, and maybe it doesn't matter. It drove me nuts! Read more

This Lodge tripod arrived quickly and in time for an important cook we had planned for July 4th weekend. I had looked at this and other tripod options for a while and finally pulled the trigger on getting this one. I've been very pleased with its performance thus far. It held my 5/6 quart Dutch oven solidly as I cooked up some Cowboy beans. I was able to adjust the amount of heat needed by easily changing the chain length. The tripod spread out sufficiently to cover my firepit and could have done more or less had the need arrived. I wasn't expecting the carry bag so that was a nice surprise, which will make carting the tripod on camping trips easy and clean. A good purchase so far! Read more

It seemed wobbly at first, but turned out being quite sturdy. It held a cast iron 12-inch Dutch oven full of chili (pictured). The carrying case was a selling point for me, and I'm glad it came with one. This case allows you to carry it in your car/vehicle without getting soot on everything. The case also helps you keep up with the tripod better; I like that mine was black with a noticeable, bright, yellow zipper. The chain is also sturdy and is a good size for large pots. Read more

Bought this to go over Solo Stove Yukon firepit and it works great. Only complaint would be that the bottom length one of the legs is bent at about a 10-15 degree angle. I saw this in some of the other reviews. It appears that the threading at the top of the leg is done at an angle. I didn't look close enough to see if the threaded section is welded onto the leg or if the threading itself is crooked. To be clear, it still threads in and appears to not affect the stability - it still stands up, but when looking at it standing there with a bent leg you begin to question the durability. I highly recommend Lodge look into their quality control processes. Read more

Easy to set up. Great for hanging a medium sized Dutch oven over a small fire. Read more

Don't pay any attention to the negative comments about being unsteady or unstable. I used this on my last camping trip...I am pretty picky but I thought it was plenty sturdy and safe with a heavy 12" cast iron dutch oven hanging on it. There were 5 men and 4 boys running around the campsite and I wasn't the least bit worried that it was going to get knocked over. I mean, you Do need to pick a good spot; not in the middle of the campsite. You, Of Course, have to stick the legs in the ground. It's not going to sit safely on a patio or deck. If you can't tell that by looking at the picture, you probably shouldn't try to use a hanging dutch oven over a fire...maybe you shouldn't even build a fire...as a matter of fact, you may not even want to go camping; just stay at home and cook in your indoor kitchen. Searched and searched until I found this product. We have a 36" fire ring (in ground) and really wanted to be able to cook over it as we have a bonfire almost every night in the summer. Issue was finding something that would work with a 36" ring. This product works perfectly! It is an extremely simple design and easy to setup. Legs can be set as far apart as you need. I am unsure how far you could set them apart but there is plenty of room to go larger on this item in case you have a larger fire ring. Craziest part is that I was watching a historical TV show later that night (1800's in Scotland) and I noticed that all of the people were using this exact same design to cook over. We ended up purchasing a 18" grill grate that goes over a traditional BBQ along with some chain and hooks to make this product a lean, mean BBQ machine :) Recommend. Read more
