The Lodge 8-inch cast iron skillet is excellent quality. It comes well pre-seasoned and heats evenly on the stove, in the oven, or over a grill or campfire. The size is perfect for small meals, and the teardrop handle makes it easy to maneuver. Durable, versatile, and a kitchen staple. Read more

This skillet is a kitchen staple! It heats evenly, holds heat really well, and works perfectly on the stovetop, oven, grill, or even over a campfire. The pre-seasoning makes it ready to use right away, and with just a little care, it gets better and more non-stick over time. I’ve cooked everything from steak and chicken to cornbread and even desserts in it, and it always delivers amazing flavor. It is heavy, but that’s part of what makes it so durable. Definitely a piece that will last a lifetime if you take care of it. Tip: I recommend getting a silicone handle cover or mitt, since the handle gets extremely hot and you don’t want to accidentally burn yourself. Pros: • Durable and built to last • Great heat retention and even cooking • Versatile (stovetop, oven, campfire) • Improves with use Cons: • Heavy compared to standard pans • Requires seasoning and care (not dishwasher safe) • Handle gets very hot without a cover Read more

This is NOW my favorite non-stick pan! Ever since I decided to stay away to chemically coated non stick pans a couple of years ago, I have tried high end stainless steel cookware like Cusinart professional series, and other carbon steel pans and woks. While they become non stick (most of time) when I heat the pans at very high heat until it is very very hot - water drops would dance, avocado oil would smoke, and eggs will be burned. And i did not like the fact that every time it has to be heated so high temperature the oil smoked as soon as it is added. But with this cast iron pan, after following the instructions and cooked a couple of packs of bacon in it, it became naturally non stick and stayed so! I don’t have to use high heat, I can make sunny side eggs easily and they come out perfect, all I need is a spray of avocado oil! For cleaning, i usually just use paper towel to wipe it clean, no washing is needed. If I do wash it I would dry it by heating on the stove until all the moisture is gone, then use a few drops of avocado oil and a paper towel to put a sheen onto the surface and it is ready for the next use! Finally a non-chemical non stick pan! Highly recommend! Do be aware it is heavy and the handle becomes very hot, so use your oven mittens and both hands! Read more

Very heavy pan. It keeps it seasoning and works great - doesn't stick. Have had others that you couldn't get seasoned no matter what. This is easy. Heats very fast. Only drawback is that the handle gets really hot very quickly. Read more

We use this pan for everything except eggs. We've had this one for quite a while now so I feel like i can give a longer term review. The biggest thing I don't like about this pan is that it didn't feel like it came sufficiently pre- seasoned, so we looked up some videos and instructions and did it. Now it feels like the more we use the pan the better it gets. My husband and I both just Love this thing. The only thing it doesn't seem to cook right is eggs. There seems to be a bit of a learning curve when it comes to cast iron, but once you figure it out, it's very enjoyable to cook on and the food comes out delicious. Tips on how we seasoned it: there are lots of opinions on which oil to use but we just went with plain ole vegetable oil. We made sure the pan was clean, then covered it with a thin layer of oil. We put it in the oven as preheated it until 475 degrees. Once it came to temperature, we turned it off and just let the pan sit in there until it cooled. The goal is to "burn off" the oil, so bring it past the smoking point until it gets dry and hard on the pan. That's what makes it coat well. We did this 3 or 4 times, but the more you use it the better nonstick surface you'll have. Tips: Don't wash with soap, it'll strip it. We purchased a chainmail scrubber that we love to use. Seems to help smooth it out a little too, but that might be in my head. When I clean it I only use the scrubber and hot water. The more I use the pan the easier it gets to clean. When you finish cleaning it, don't leave it wet. It'll rust. We just put it back on the stove with the burner on until it's dry. Easy. Keep in mind that cast iron doesn't exactly heat evenly, but it holds heat well. This just means that you have to sufficiently preheat the pan before you use to ensure even cooking. Overall I love this pan! It just gets better every time I use it. Read more
