Just rinsing with fresh warm water. The water falls back into a reservoir so if you want you can see what was in your ear. Ear drops do not come with this as advertised, so if I am in need to use ear drops to soften earwax, I will follow-up with this manual ear cleaner. For some light-duty cleaning this does okay. It's reasonably well made and is easy and comfortable to use. The issue is that you can't get much pressure out of it. It just kind of lightly sprays a bit into your ear. It didn't do the job for me so I ordered one of the plunger style ones. Those are similar to the one that was used in the clinic a previous time when I went in with a plugged up ear. The plunger unit really got the water rushing in there and got everything out.
