Bought two of these to upgrade and old Power Mac G4 system. Paid about $17 apiece, an excellent bargain at that price. They say "Maxtor", which was bought out by Seagate in 2006 so I guess they're new old stock. Brand new. Still sealed in the plastic anti-static bags. These were (and still are) good, fast, inexpensive, reliable hard drives. Read more

It's only been about a month but the computer gets used constantly throughout the day. The drive is quiet and I've done several tests on it. So far so good! Perfect replacement for my dad's failing hard drive in his desktop. I didn't realize until switching it out how loud his old one was. I've been working with computers for a lot of years and one thing I've noticed is one-brand might be a little more reliable than another but they all have a fairly high failure rate. That's why backups are important! Most of the time if the drive lasts past a month I'll get at least a few years out of it. Read more

writing this review the next day after installation. I reinstalled Windows XP on an old Dell Dimension 2400 (2004) to replace the original failing HDD that came with the computer. So far so good. It's loud (like almost all IDE drives are) and it performs fine, no issues to report. Now if I can just get a decent PCI (not express) video card for this ancient computer, I'll have a pretty sweet retro XP machine! Read more

Quiet when reading. A bit noisy when righting. When the case gets closed up, I'll probably not hear it. Not an SSD or SATA drive, but very good for its class of HDD. The fact that new IDE drives are still made, finding this unit at such a steal of a price was pleasantly surprising. Read more

Received two of these drives in perfect condition from one seller. From a different seller, one of these drives reported SMART errors and I was unable to complete a full format of the drive as a result. Read more

Works with PlayStation 2; but be warned: In order to install any games that were commercially released to utilize HDD PS2 function (i.e. Resident Evil Outbreak series, Final Fantasy, etc) you will require an actual Sony Brand HDD. PlayStation 2 software will not recognize any HDD other than one that is of the Sony Brand. Read more

Purchased for PS2 soft mod and couldn't be happier ATM. worked perfectly out the box/bag and is doing exactly what I need it to. I will update periodically as to how it's performance remains overtime. Update 4/13/16 I have purchased two more of the exact same HD and all three worked flawlessly. I have put a few dozen hours onto one as I am playing an RPG ATM. Zero hiccups so far. Read more

I bought this hard drive to soft mod an old PS2 using a network adapter attached the hard drive. Works great and have been a happy camper since! Would recommend if you need a hard drive for adding more games to your library on older consoles such as PS2 or original Xbox. Read more
