My shower cartridge was from 1977!! Original to the house being built. I am the second owner. The cartridge became very difficult to pull in and out, and turning was okay but required a good grip. It got to the point though, that pushing it in to turn it off didn't turn it all the way off. Unless you put some body weight into pushing it in. Being that I had no idea what cartridge I needed, I wrote to Moen and ask them. This was the cartridge they recommended for my situation. I'm a 63 year old lady , and I've never replaced a cartridge before, so I read a lot of reviews and watched YouTube videos. I bought a cartridge puller tool, which I'm glad I did!! Excellent advice from those that advised it. Following the directions of YouTube videos, I was able to remove and install the new cartridge very easily. I was concerned that it wasn't going to work because the cartridge I purchased was completely different than the cartridge I pulled out!! Not even similar! So when I got everything put back together and turned the water back on, I had a little bit of trepidation that water was going to come blasting out because it was the wrong cartridge. LOl!! I even pulled the shower curtain closed, just in case!! However that didn't happen, and the cartridge worked flawlessly. As a matter of fact it works so smoothly that it's almost completely effortless. Such a wonderful change!! I will add, that I did lubricate the cartridge (per video advice) with silicone meant for swimming pool equipment and gaskets. And I'm sure that that helped make it operate more smoothly. Now you may be wondering why I said "But" in the title. Well, the cartridge I received is not the cartridge pictured for this item. The only picture that looks like the one I received is if you scroll down through all of the information and you see the Moen box with the cartridge in it, and the cartridge is actually transparent. That's the one I received! I did not see Moen stamped on it, and I actually looked! So that's why I said "But". I did not receive the cartridge that is shown in the picture at the top of this item. I really think that the picture should be changed to accurately represent what the buyers are going to receive. Read more

This is the perfect and only fit for a Moen faucet. You have to make sure you look at the Model name and research which one fits your faucet. My faucet is 42 years old and this is the first time I've had to replace the cartridge. This was the one it needed and now works like a new faucet again. Moen knows how to built thing right. I got this because my bath tub faucet was only delivering cold or luke-warm water. There could be many reasons for this, including ones related to water pressure from the pipes, etc. But to me it seemed that the faucet was mixing the hot and cold water even when the knob was turned to the "fully-hot" position. It turned out that I was right and that the reason was simply an old, worn-out cartridge. I was very skeptical of this Moen 1225 Replacement Cartridge because of its plastic construction. It also did not seem to look like it had holes and valves in exactly the same position as my existig cartridge. But I went ahead and bought it and replaced my cartridge. Installation was easy, but it is important to make sure the cartridge is inserted fully and oriented correctly. This fixed my water problem and I am very pleased. I have been using this cartridge now for a full year and it still seems to be working well. I have given this item 4 stars instead of 5 because it seems that the transition from warm to "too hot" still takes place over a very small turn radius. This means that to get the temperature "just right" I have to spend a lot of time nudging the handle ever so slightly from warm to hot, and it's very easy to go too far. This could be the fault of the Moen faucet's design or the cartridge design---I'm not sure which. But overall, this was a very good replacement part. Read more

After trying a knock off replacement part from the local hardware store (which did not exactly fit) and finding the ubiquitous 1225 out of stock at the big box hardware 🙄, I did what I should have done from the start and got this in 8 hours from Amazon. It’s a great deal for the genuine Moen part, said by plumbers to be far better than the knock offs. A couple notes for install. Get the Moen cartridge puller; you’ll be glad you did. Be sure to pull the top lock pin before you remove. Once the new cartridge is in, it has to be completely straight to reinstall that two prong pin. Grease the new cartridge before inserting and push it all the way in. And yes, it is possible to install the cartridge upside down, so that hot and cold will be reversed after install, so take note of the cartridge you remove (position of the Moen engraving). Of course, turn off water to the shower or house before you begin. Easy job if you know what you’re doing, and a plumber will charge you $300 plus for the same work. THIS is the part you want.
